Course Details PTL Solar Academy, is a partnership with Solar Energy International (SEI), America's leading renewable energy training institute, to launch its inaugural session in Feb 2012 PV101: Solar Electric Design and Installation This course will provide an overview of the basics of PV system applications. Both grid-direct systems and battery-based systems will be discussed. The goal of the course is to create a fundamental understanding of the core concepts necessary to work with all PV systems, including: system components, site analysis, PV module criteria, mounting solutions, safety, and commissioning. The course will also cover the sizing a residential grid-direct system and stand-alone systems. We encourage all students to complete SEIs free PV 101 PREP course prior to participating in this course. PV 101 PREP is an online, on-demand instructorless course, which covers Lessons 1-3. Day 1 Introduction Review all PV System Types and Components Lesson Modules Module Specifications; the IV Curve; Commercially available cell technologies; Environmental effects on modules Lesson Metering Using a digital multimeter to assess system operation Lesson Series & Parallel Building System Voltage and Amperage; Dissimilar Modules in Series and Parallel Lesson 6 Exercise Series & Parallel

Day 2 Lesson Site Analysis & Solar Resource Effects of Orientation, Tilt Angles, and Shading; Magnetic Declination; Peak Sun Hours; Available Solar Site Analysis Tools Demo/Lab Hand-On Exercise See the effects of orientation and tilt angle on modules energy output by measuring the Volts and Current with Digital Meters.
