A BRIEF TECHNICAL PROJECT REPORT ON FOOD TESTING LABORATORY

INTRODUCTION
Food manufacturing companies / food import and export companies send samples of their products to food testing laboratories, which analyze the samples by performing a number of tests. These tests include those that look for bacterial contamination, allergens, vitamins and mineral count, or caloric information. Food testing occurs routinely under the supervision of the following various regulatory bodies in india Ministry of food processing industries, Govt. of India, Panchasheel Bhavan, August Kranti Marg, New Delhi. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) - Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), - Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Significance of Microbiological Testing Food borne bacteria can cause all sorts of problems. Food poisoning can foster mild to severe stomach discomfort, major gastrointestinal distress, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, hospitalization and even death. Salmonella is most widely contracted from the ingestion of contaminated poultry meat but can be found in any raw meat, some dairy products, yeast and even coconuts. E coli can be particularly dangerous. Campylobacter has been identified as the #1 bacterial cause of food borne illness in most Parts of the world. Its most commonly found in raw poultry, meat, and raw juices. While the food processing industry tries to identify and remove these toxic pathogens at several stages they are not always successful. Its not just food that can harbor these bacteria but also food handling and preparation areas as well.

Significance of Allergens Test Food allergies are common -- and commonly misunderstood by doctors as well as patients. Food allergies occur when a sensitive person eats, inhales, or comes into contact with even tiny amounts of certain foods or food additives. These allergic reactions can be very mild or may be life-threatening. Food allergies are becoming more and more common. There has been an increase in severe food allergy cases in the last 10 years, mostly driven by peanut and tree nut allergies. In children, the most common food allergies are Cow's milk, Hen's eggs, Peanuts, Tree nuts, Soybeans, Wheat etc., In adults, the most common food allergies are Peanuts, Tree nuts, Fish, Crustaceans (such as shrimp, crabs, and lobster), Mollusks (such as clams, oysters, and mussels), Fruits, Vegetables etc Food Chemistry Testing Studies to learn those chemical processes taking place inside food tell us what is safe to eat, make sure the quality is consistent and even appetizing - studies that do flavor and texture analyses, aroma, temperature effects, nutrition labeling and calorie analysis. General tests includes carbohydrate testing, fat testing, vitamin testing, mineral testing, preservative analysis etc., FOOD TESTING LABORATORIES
