13th August 2012 Dear Sir/Madame, We would like to invite you to nominate one or two faculty members from your institution to participate in an upcoming professional development course on nuclear security education at Kings College London (KCL) that will be organized in conjunction with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The objective of the course is to build capacity to develop and deliver an academic course introducing the topic of nuclear security. If your institution is planning to establish nuclear security education, this course will be an ideal opportunity for your faculty members to acquire skills and knowledge necessary to deliver a basic course on nuclear security. The course will include two classroom training sessions at KCL (14 October 2012 and 7-11 January 2013) and online learning activities before and between the two classroom sessions. The course format will closely follow NS1 Introduction to Nuclear Security from the IAEA Nuclear Security Series No. 12, Educational Programme in Nuclear Security (NSS12). Participants will be expected to actively participate in the course and perform several short assignments outside the two classroom sessions. It is anticipated that a total of 15 participants will be selected. The nominees will be selected on the basis of their teaching and research experience relevant to nuclear security (such as nuclear engineering, security studies, nuclear safety, and non-proliferation, nuclear safeguards) and their academic institutions future plans to offer courses in this field. Places on the course will be offered free of charge with the costs of travel, food and accommodation covered by the IAEA. To nominate a participant, please send an official letter describing the institutions plans for nuclear security education and curriculum vitae of the potential candidate(s). Nominations should be submitted as soon as possible, but not later than the 24th of August 2012. The nominations should be sent by email to: isabelle.anstey@kcl.ac.uk. Selected faculty members will be notified by 27th August 2012. All further details related to the course organization and implementation will be discussed directly with them. Yours sincerely,
