Geographical area

The state Rajasthan which holds the title of "historic and princely state", that engulfs itself 5.5% of nations population with 10.41%of total geographical area possess hardly 1% of total country's fresh water resources. Most of the districts of Rajasthan experience uncertainty and scanty rainfall depending largely on groundwater that is either saline or has excess fluoride. The principle food crops of the state are Wheat, Bajra, Maize, Barley and Jowar. While the Bajra is largely cultivated in most part of Rajasthan. The state has witnessed severe droughts continuously from 1998 to 2000. In the present context, the ongoing drought situation has reached its height of claiming damage. Out of these, Rajasthan alone claims its share of more than 45% were it announced the 32 districts as drought hit. Cattle rearing constitute the second most important livelihood activity in the state. As per 1997 livestock census the state has 12 million cattle, 10 million Buffaloes, 14 million sheep, 17 million goats and 0.7 million camels. It should be noted that the number of camels has declined by nearly 10% between 1992 and 1997. The average sex ratio of the state is as low as 922. Thirteen of the 32 districts in the state have sex ratio of below 900. At the same time, literacy rate in Rajasthan is 61%, ranging from a low of 44% in Banswara to high of 74.5% in Kota. Female literacy is 44%, ranging from a low of 27.5% in Jalore to a high of 61.3% in Kota. (2001 census) Failure of monsoon is the major reason for drought condition in the state. Monsoon has been showing erratic behavior, especially in the past two decades. The state experience 40% less than the normal rainfall. The blatant fact is that, the absence of monsoon leaves the villagers with enough to think and work for their daily bread to survive and confides their thoughts to think and admire about the technical advancement.

Community and women Empowerment

The operational strategy of ABGUS would be to form a regional federation (Micro Finance Organization) of Village Development Committees (VDC), self Help Group At (SHG) present and individual has members to implements its entire LEEP program. ABGUS promoted and strengthened 18 VDC and 121 SHGs at project area. The promotion of community believes to

might sustain its efforts. Keeping in this view we organized capacity building training for the members of the CBOs. These capacity building sessions build the perspective of leaders to works for their own interest. Due to existence of feudalistic social order a major part of population on constituted by SCs. Most backward classes and women are depended on other for their minimum basic needs. It results in vicious circle of socio economic exploitation and increases their vulnerability. Hence ABGUS focused to shift their economic depended to self reliance. Through promotion of saving and credit groups and building their capacity, additional employment opportunities

organization is the basis thrust of the organization; ABGUS organize people at every stage, so that people can ensure their participation in development social change. To achieve this goal, there are many training camps, orientation & exposure for CBO leaders and financial security and social upliftment of poor that is proven. Strengthening of CBO Time to time training and workshop are organized to build the capacity of VDCs members in the respect of their rights roles Govt. schemes & etc. ABGUS
