Labour back in control at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council

This June saw an end to the five years of Plaid Cymru failing to deliver for the people of Talbot Green as Labour swept to power after being overwhelmingly endorsed by many wards in Rhondda Cynon Taff. Labours Candidate for Talbot Green, Jonathan Bishop managed to push Plaid Cymrus Jools Jones into third place, securing 12.8 percent of the vote. While Plaid Cymru were in power, they received an extra 82 million from the National Assembly, but increased the cost of meals on wheels, put up the charges for our leisure centres, closed day centres and introduced parking charges for disabled drivers. Labour has begun to reverse this trend by announcing that we will make parking in council car parks free of charge to the disabled.

New Measures to Improving Traffic Flows and Managing Road Works

The Labour Government in Westminster is taking forward new legislation to improve traffic flows and manage road works more effectively. The new legislation will give local authorities the power to control street works and avoid disruption to road users. Utility companies will soon have to apply for lane rental permits before digging up roads and they will face heavy penalties if work overruns. The legislation will create traffic officers who work for the Highways Agency, enabling 550 police officers to tackle crime in England and Wales.

Tackling Antisocial Behaviour

The Labour Assembly Government has introduced new measures to crack down on crime and get tough with people who make their neighbours life a misery. The new measures, which were opposed by the Tories and Liberal Democrats, make it an offence to sell spray paints to under 16s and give stronger powers to councils to tackle fly tipping, graffiti and fly posting as well as powers to shut down noisy establishments such as pubs and clubs. The legislation also makes it possible for the police to take swift action to close crack houses causing serious nuisance to the community and gives the police powers to deal with illegal raves.

Is Talbot Green disabled friendly?

In a recent letter to the Pontypridd & Llantrisant Observer, Jonathan Bishop, the Labour Party Candidate for Talbot Green in this Junes elections, asked what is being done for disabled people in Talbot Green, In my time visiting Talbot Green I have noticed that there is a lack of provision for wheelchair users, he said, I think the council should provide safe routes to the shops by placing more drop curbs and pedestrian crossings where wheelchair users need them. He called on Councillor Paul Baccara to put himself in the shoes of disabled people and do something to help them.

Your Labour Team are here to help

Dear Resident, I was delighted to have been the Labour Party Candidate for Talbot Green in this Junes local government elections. I have strong family connections with Talbot Green; it is where my mother grew up, where my grandmother lives and where my fathers small construction company is based. After the election I have returned to my role as Youth Officer in the Pontypridd Constituency Labour Party, where I have been contacting young people to encourage them to become more involved in discussing ideas for making our communities stronger and safer. I still regularly visit Talbot Green to use the shops, busses and go swimming with my fiance. On the campaign trail I met many interesting people with good ideas for improving Talbot Green, some suggested introducing traffic calming measures, many of you agreed with my policy of having more play areas and play groups for children and the majority of you shared my concern that Talbot Green is becoming more like an out-of-town shopping centre and less like the quiet village it used to be. I have passed many of your comments and concerns onto Paul Baccara, the County Borough Councillor for Talbot Green, who I hope will do his best to improve Talbot Green now hes been given a second chance. Jonathan Bishop Labour Party Youth Officer
