The Last Letter (2003)

Listeners Digest (2004)

Zubz, known affectionately by his fans as The Last Letta, The Legendary Golden mic holder, and the ill rhyme writer, is rated as one of the most prolific African hip hop artists of this generation. Born in Zambia, raised in Zimbabwe and living in South Africa, Zubz is an award nominated emcee who is a true product of African diversity. Since graduating from Rhodes University where he used to perform at campus hip-hop shows, Zubz has come a long way, after gracing the stage alongside American emcees such as The Lost Boyz, Talib Kweli, Dead Prez, Black Thought and Jeru da Damaja early in his career. After finding a musical home at the independent label Outrageous Records, South Africa began to feel his lyrical force and his music infiltrated radio airwaves featuring as part of the duo Originz. A knowledgeable social commentator, his grooming as an award worthy artist started with his highly acclaimed first mixtape, Last Letta, which was released for free to the public in 2003 and is still highly sought after, prompting a re-release onto the internet. As his fans were baying for more, the classic mixtape was quickly followed by the full album Listeners Digest, released in 2004. Following the success of Listeners Digest, he released The Writers Club mixtape alongside a host of urban movers and shakers such as HHP, Snazz D, Khethi and Pebbles. Headphone Music in a Parallel Universe came as his sophomore offering in 2006 and even more people started listening. Above all else, this album offered deep insight into the artists feelings about things that most of us are usually too afraid to talk about, with controversial songs and thought provoking lyrical content. In 2009, after a two year break, Zubz third offering, Cochlea: One Last Letta, has a different, lighter feel to it. Despite this, hes stuck to his definition of Hip Hop: True, Lyrical, Brave and wholly Zubz. Cochlea: One Last Letta is the marriage of all the elements that result in sheer listening pleasure: thought provoking and relatable content, head nodding beats and cool collaborations with some of Africas vocal and poetic gems including RJ Benjamin, Lebo Mashile and Pebbles. With the album gaining popular appeal, Zubz is poised to release his fourth studio album titled Dragon Lion in 2012. For Zubz this is about art, expression and being true to himself. Its not your stereotypical boom bap hip hop, it's for the more open minded, experimental, mature, more searching kind of persona lot of the material requires you to dig deeper than just the melodies.

An inimitable performer, The Legendary Golden mic holder Zubz has stepped on stages all over the world, sharing his music with audiences in Italy, Finland, Sweden, and The Netherlands, to name but a few.
