Common Safety Training Program

DURATION: 3 days (plus on the job appraisal) The Common Safety Training Program is being conducted to support the oil and gas industry to improving the safety behaviours of personnel entering the industry. This safety behavioral program has been designed by Industry for Industry to reflect knowledge and skills represented through 6 key areas: The Safety Case and Safety Management Systems Work Under an Issued Permit Identify Hazards and Risks Contribute to Safe Work Practices Control Minor Incidents Respond to an Emergency

The program requires demonstration of behaviours both in the workplace and during training of industry defined observable behaviours which on successful completion of the program participants will receive a Common Safety Training Card which will be issued by an independent reviewer operating at the discretion of the oil and gas industry. Please note: A valid TBOSIET card may also be required for offshore work and can be undertaken as part of the Common Safety Training Program or BOSIET/CSTP course. CONTENT: This course covers the following: Reasons for a Safety Case and Safety Management System Recognise the importance and reasons for different work permits Comply with permit conditions including the wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Take appropriate action to resolve faults or report faults to appropriate personnel Explain and implement incident response procedures Identify hazards and assess risk Initiate suggestions to enhance task/job-specific safety Follow procedures for risk control Follow emergency procedures Apply knowledge of OHS legislation and the organisation OHS policies and procedures Evaluate, control and conclude incident control

CERTIFICATION: On successful completion of trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for: MSAPMOHS110A Follow Emergency Procedures MSAPMOHS200A Work Safely MSAPMOHS205A Control Minor Incidents MSAPMPER200B Work in Accordance with issued Permit

DURATION: 1 day The Common Safety Training Program is an initiative of the APPEA Safety Leadership Forum in response to concerns about safety standards of new starts to the oil and gas industry. It is a program specifically designed to address identified industry safety behavioral requirements and includes 6 key areas: The Safety Case and Safety Management Systems Work Under an Issued Permit Identify Hazards and Risks Contribute to Safe Work Practices Control Minor Incidents Respond to an Emergency

The Common Safety Training Program is a 2 part process and requires new start trainees to demonstrate specific knowledge and skills from these 6 key areas to gain endorsement, firstly in the training context and secondly in the workplace. Once endorsed by both the training organisation and the work site, trainees are issued with the Common Safety Training Card, a requirement for employment on an oil and gas facility. DESCRIPTION: The Supervisors Course is designed to assist supervisors in their role of managing the process of observing and recording trainees demonstration of safe behaviors in the workplace in order to provide site endorsement. It provides supervisors with key understandings of the behaviour standards that are expected of trainees, and assists supervisors to put into formal constructs their existing skills and knowledge in making and recording judgments of trainees safe work behaviours. CONTENT: This course includes the following: Rationale for Common Safety Training Program The Common Safety Training Program process The roles and responsibilities of the supervisor Issues of workplace supervision Common Safety Training Program as a safety culture tool Managing and collecting workplace evidence o Who collects the evidence o Partial versus holistic evidence o Evidence verification Practical Using tools and making observations
