Utilities Service Tests Image Quality Print

CP

Purpose To troubleshoot image-quality problems due to printheads or media. Operation To be printed in A3/B size, on the same media type that shows the image-quality problems in question. For details of how to use it, see User's Guide.

Printhead Recovery

1. User-Accessible Tools (3 of 4): Accuracy Calibration

Purpose To perform the media advance calibration recommended when there are banding problems due to mechanical accuracy. Operation l The media recommended for this calibration is HP Matte Film, to ensure a good dot placement control. l For details of how to run the calibration, see User's Guide. l The results of this calibration are stored in the user's area of the EEROM, and so you can always recover the factory default values.

Accuracy Calibration

Purpose To prepare the printer properly for removal or long-term storage, so that damage is avoided. Operation l The relevant front-panel option is under the Utilities menu. l For further information o the procedure, refer to the User's Guide, under Maintaining Your Printer.

1. Switch off the printer using the rear switch. 2. Holding down the front-panel up-arrow and Enter keys simultaneously, switch the printer on. 3. Wait until the 'Initializing' message is displayed on the front panel before releasing the keys. 4. If you have successfully entered Service Mode, you will see letters at the bottom-right corner of the front-panel display changing. 5. When 'Ready' is displayed, go to Utilities > Service test.

l Sensors disabled inside the calibrations and diagnostics

menus. This means that if carriage is moving and you open the window, the carriage will not stop.
l Diagnostics and calibrations menus visible. l The printer will re-initialize into Normal Mode after

five minutes without activity.

Setting the Printhead Height This calibration is most accurate with the left cover on, so some models have a small round hole on the left side of the left cover, enabling you to perform the procedure without having to remove the cover. If there is no hole, remove the left cover.

2. Tighten or loosen the back top screw in order to calibrate the printhead height. Use the correct gauge. l 2000CP Series: minimum height. l 3000CP Series: nominal height.

Replacing the electronics module When the electronics module is replaced, you adjust the refill position on the Y-axis, as stored on the EEROM, but change neither the printhead height nor the refill position on the Z-axis (mechanical positions).

Therefore, when replacing electronics module, set the license ID to the correct Asian font. Operation l The Test PCA detects if there is a short in either the DC motors (carriage and media axis) or stepper motors, or a defective connection (short to the printer chassis). l If the test fails, either check the connections or replace the defective motor or cable, along with the electronics module.
