Water Project in Ruhunga

On June 4, 2012, the village of Ruhunga welcomed Jane Holler and Dan Marecki from UFI for the commissioning of a water project in the village. The program included singing, dancing, and a feast of local food to celebrate the flowing of water. Water taps were turned on and children jumped with glee as they filled their water containers. Prior to this, children were required to walk several miles each day to fetch water from a stream. The water is not clean in the stream and it had to be boiled for drinking, cooking and bathing. Thanks to generous donors like you, the village

Update on Rwesigiire Project

Our past newsletters showed the progression of the water project in Rwesigiire, but after several months, the project failed. We contacted the Draco Co. who We met with

conducted a few onsite investigations.

Dr. Flavio, the Director of Draco on June 2, 2012, in Kampala, UG. He agreed to send another crew to

Rwesigiire to further investigate, which they did immediately. Draco Co. determined that the borehole that they had originally dug was not deep enough. The following week, the trucks arrived again in the village to re-dig the borehole, which was a success. Water is now Dan and Jane with villagers in Ruhunga flowing in the village of Rwesigiire again.

5K Run to Support Water for Africa

Running Water for Africa & the Importance of Clean Water
On September 22, Uganda Farmers Inc. will sponsor its second annual Running Water for Africa event at Foran High School in Milford. Waterborne diseases are the leading cause of illness and death worldwide, especially in Africa and Asia. 40% of the worlds population does not have clean water to drink, and according to a United Nations report, 4,000 children die each day as a result of ingesting contaminated water. Thanks to local support, last years inaugural race was a big success. Funds raised were used to bring clean water to thousands of people in the western Ugandan villages of Rwesigiire and Ruhunga. Digging the trench for last years project These villagers are now assured of a clean water supply and no longer have to walk two to three miles twice a day to fetch water as taps are scattered throughout each village. This years proceeds will be used to benefit the village of Ihunga, Uganda. Pre-registration is encouraged (online at www.raceit.com) and must be received before September 15.
