God and Noah Series Toddler & Preschool Curriculum Lesson 4 God Sends a Rainbow

To the Teacher: Begin your planning and preparation with prayer. A letter has been provided for you to send home with the children to share with their parents what is happening in Sunday school, and for review. Arrive early to set things up, relax, breathe, take a moment in prayer, and be present when parents arrive with their children. Preparation Read Genesis Chapters 8 and 9. Think about ways you can make this reading relevant to the young lives of your students. Memory Verse: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Genesis 9:13 (The verse can be made simple for toddlers God sent the rainbow in the sky) Materials needed: Multi rainbow colors cut into strips to make a rainbow. Children glue to blue construction paper.

Schedule & Lesson Free time (10 minutes) Greet parents with a smile and welcome their child by greeting. Make parents feel it is a caring place to leave their child in the Toddler/Preschool room. Make sure all toys are sanitized weekly and ready to play with. You may want to change your toys from time to time to provide a different assortment. Prayer & Snack (10 minutes) Kids should wash their hands and sit down at the table. They should drink from a small cup, and use a napkin. Pray a simple short pray before eating. Establish this so they learn good habits and manners. Suggestion: Graham crackers and apple juice. Review Music (5 minutes) Noah Builds a Boat (Tune: Jesus Loves Me) God told Noah to build a boat (make building motions using closed hands) Make it wide and very tall, (Make motions wide and tall) God did help him build the boat, (Point to God) To keep him safe from all the rain. (Rain motions from sky) I am so thankful , I am so thankful, I am so thankful, (Clap 2x on the word thankful) God help him make the boat. (Make building motions using closed hands) God Sends Rain Tune: Deep and Wide God sent rain, God sent rain, (Point to God, rain motions with fingers) And it rained and rained and rained and rained. (Rain motions) God sent rain, God sent rain, (Point to God, rain motions with fingers)

And it rained and rained and rained and rained. (Rain motions) Music: God Sent the Dove (Tune: God Is So Good) God sent the dove, (flying motions) God sent the dove, God sent the dove, Back to the Boat! Lesson Time (5-10 minutes) Use good expression for the kids and make it exciting. Change your voice as needed to make the lesson exciting! Teacher Review: God had looked all over the earth. (Make circles around your eyes). And found only one man who loved Him. His name was Noah. Noah, I want you to build a boat, said God. Make it this tall (Hand high) and this wide (Hands wide). Make it big enough for your family and lots and lots of animals. So this is what Noah did. He got some special wood and hammered and hammered and hammered (use a plastic hammer). Next God said, Noah now that the boat is built, take all your family and go inside. No other people wanted to get into the big boat. They did not really believe God would send rain like He said He would. So they waited to see what would happen. Sure enough, God shut the door (Clap hands) on the boat. It rained many days until the whole earth was filled with water. Only the people in the big boat were safe. God took care of them. After Noah had been in the ark for 40 (hold up 4 fingers) days, God told Noah to send out a dove to see if the water had disappeared from the ground. The dove flew around and around all day and evening and finally found an olive leaf bringing it back to the boat. Noah let the dove back inside the boat. He fed the dove and gave him water and after 7 (hold up 7 fingers) days. Decided to send the dove our again. This time, the dove never returned. Lets count to 7. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7.

New Lesson: The big day finally arrived when God told Noah to leave the ark. Wow! What a relief it was to go outside in the fresh air and see the sun again, the clouds in the big sky, and the green trees. All the animals with Noah and his family left the ark. Noah was so thankful to God that he built an altar and offered thanks to God in heaven (point to heaven). God told Noah that he would never send so much rain that would cause a big flood over the whole earth. God has kept His promise. After a big rain, if we look up in the sky we may see a beautiful rainbow. When we see the rainbow, God is saying, I will keep my promise. I will never flood the whole earth again ever! God is good all the time! Music: Lets sing our new song about the rainbow God sent.

(Hands high) Chorus: God sent a rainbow, (Sweep hand as motion of rainbow across the sky) God sent a rainbow, God sent a rainbow, Way up in the big blue sky! (Hands high) Rainbow Craft (10 minutes) Give each child a blue piece of construction paper. Give strips of paper the colors of the rainbow to glue on the construction paper. Scripture Poetry (Based on Genesis 9)

(hands up high) Cleanup (5 minutes) Chant the words: Clean up clean up, now it's time to clean up. Everybody clean up, now it's time to clean Gods house.
