Sewing 1. Fold each wedge in half lengthwise with the right sides together. Sew the top edge of each wedge with seam. 2. Trim seams to 3. Turn the wedges right side out and then push each point out with something pointy like a seam ripper. Be careful not to push too hard. 4. Now sew the wedges in pairs by stitching down the long side . 5. Finger press each seam open (they sit better this way). Dont press with the iron at this stage the wedges have a bias edge and would be easy to distort. 6. Sew your pairs into fours, treating the sewn seams as before. 7. Now add a fifth wedge to each set of four. 8. Each set of five is a quarter of your plate. Sew four quarters together to make a circle. 9. Do this to make 12 full circles. With your remaining sets make up 4 three quarter blocks (consisting of 15 wedges). 10. You can now gently press with an iron 11. Sew each complete plate to a background block using a blind appliqu stitch.

Centre Circle 1. Run a small tacking stitch around the edge of each circle leaving a long tail of thread when you finish 2. Centre template B. on one of the fabric circles (right side of the fabric face down template on top). Hold the template firmly and pull the thread up tight until the fabric gathers up around the template. 3. When you are happy with the shape press it with a hot steam iron. 4. Remove the template 5. Now appliqu your circle to the centre each of the 12 plates. 6. Trim each background block 11square.

Alternate Blocks 1. From your background fabric cut 6 11 x 11 squares.

2. With the remainder of fabrics used in to make the wedges cut 34 (4 x 4 )squares. 3. On the wrong side of the fabric draw a line diagonally across each square. 4. Place a square on each corner of your alternate block lining the edges up. Pin. 5. Now stitch diagonally along the drawn lines. 6. Do this for all six blocks.

Set In and Corner Triangles Cutting 1. Cut 2 8x8 squares. Cut these in half diagonally to make your four corner triangles. 2. Cut 3 16 x 16 squares. Cut these diagonally twice to make 12 set in triangles (you will only use 10).

Putting It All Together 1. Using the photograph as your guide lay you quilt out. Join your blocks together in diagonal rows. 2. Place a corner block or a set in triangle at the end of each row. Again refer to the photograph to decide their position. 3. Now add your remaining two corner triangles. 4. Pin your rows together and sew. 5. Now check your seam allowance along the outer edge of the quilt and trim to square up if necessary (sometimes the bias edge of the triangle will stretch a little whilst sewing ).

Borders and Final Plates Cutting 1. The inner border is cut at 2. Cut 7 strips across the bolt.

2. The outer border is cut at 6. Cut 8 strips. Sewing 1. Cut your border strips to the correct length and attach. I mitred the corners on this quilt. 2. Finally pin or tack a three quarter Dresden Plate to each corner lining it up with the inner border. Appliqu in place. Add a centre circle to each plate and appliqu these in place.

Binding After you have quilted your top you will then need to join the binding strips together in order to bind you quilt. Cut strips of binding across the fabric at 2. Join the strips with bias joins to make on long strip. Press the binding in half lengthwise with the wrong sides together. Trim the excess batting and backing from the quilt. With the raw edges together and right sides facing each other, sew the binding to the quilt (use a walking foot on your machine to do this). Form a mitre at each corner of the quilt as you sew. Fold the binding to the back and hand sew the folded edge in place.
