a ustedes los he llamado amigos, porque todo lo que he odo a mi Padre es lo que les he dado a conocer (Juan 15:15b) Estimados amigos y amigas del Buen Pastor, espero que me permitan tomar el texto de Juan, con palabras de Jess, cuando se estaba despidiendo de sus amigos, para despedirme de ustedes como su pastor, pues un amigo es aquel que ha compartido, en palabra y obra, lo ms valioso que tiene con los dems, y lo ms valioso que yo he recibido es lo que he odo del Padre a travs de Jesucristo. Ciertamente uno es siempre consciente de sus limitaciones y carencias, pero tambin de que, por la Gracia de Dios, su Espritu que mora en nosotros convierte an nuestros errores en enseanza, as que quisiera compartir con ustedes cmo Buen Pastor ha sido el espacio sagrado en donde Dios se ha manifestado muy concretamente en mi vida. Fue en 1972 cuando por primera vez visitamos, mi esposa y yo, el Buen Pastor, habiendo reencontrado mi fe unos aos antes, y buscando una iglesia despus de haber visitado muchas. Fue slo una visita, porque vivamos en Puebla, pero fue definitiva, pues aqu comenz nuestro descubrimiento de lo que significa ser parte del Cuerpo de Cristo, y de lo que la Iglesia Luterana daba, por la gracia de Dios, al resto del cuerpo que son todos los creyentes de todas las confesiones cristianas. As que cuando fuimos a estudiar a Canad y Estados Unidos, fue completamente natural que hiciramos de la iglesia luterana nuestra iglesia, en donde quiera que estuviramos y que, once aos despus, al regresar a Mxico, viramos a Buen Pastor como nuestra casa espiritual. Aqu se confirm Wendy y se bautiz Keity, nuestras dos hijas, aqu formamos amistades muy queridas, y desde aqu se realizaron nuestros ministerios en varios campos: educacin, social, pastoral, trabajo con mujeres marginadas, etc., siempre sintindonos misioneros no-oficiales de Buen Pastor. Pero nunca me imagine que alguna vez sera el pastor de Buen Pastor. Dios me llam a travs del Consejo de la iglesia para suplir y apoyar a otros pastores, pues creo firmemente en el sacerdocio de todos los creyentes, as que cuando me orden oficialmente, lo hice sabiendo que m funcin sera apoyar el trabajo del pastor Brondos y el pastor Lpez, por un periodo corto, que se extendi sin darme cuenta porque lo disfrut mucho, por casi diez aos, hasta que cambiaron las circunstancias con la partida del pastor Lpez primero, y del Pastor Brondos despus, y cuando nuestras expectativas de un pastor de tiempo completo no tuvo los resultados esperados.

As que, en un momento crtico de nuestra iglesia, tome la difcil decisin de asumir el papel de pastor responsable, siendo plenamente consciente de mis limitaciones y carencias, pero tambin sabindome acompaado por nuestra entonces vicaria Sofa Tenorio, nuestra secretaria Maresa, y de Ruth, nuestra eficiente y muy querida gurda-templo y su familia y, por supuesto, toda la congregacin. Creo que es entonces cuando ms cerca sent la Gracia de Dios envolvindome a travs de ustedes, de su Cuerpo, esta comunidad, cuyos dones salieron para suplir mis carencias, y entonces empec a escuchar de una manera diferente lo que el Padre me deca, pues me permiti crecer contemplando desde dentro lo que l estaba haciendo con ustedes. Un breve repaso de lo que me ha rodeado en los ltimos aos les dar una idea de lo que quiero decir. He pues, contemplado la trabajosa consolidacin de un consejo muy responsable que ha sido un apoyo invaluable para nuestra tarea pastoral, pero tambin para dirigir ahora nuestro proceso de renovacin. He sido testigo de la ordenacin por iniciativa nuestra, de las primeras mujeres luteranas en Mxico, una de ellas nuestra Sofa Tenorio (ahora con su propio ministerio en una iglesia hermana), y convertirnos con ello en una fuente de renovacin para la iglesia luterana mexicana. He sido parte de la realizacin de cultos importantes en tiempos de la epidemia, y de un realce de las festividades litrgicas en el ao, incluyendo los convivios realizados por todos con las coordinaciones de Sofa, Ysela y otras damas de la iglesia. He participado en el fortalecimiento de nuestra relacin con el ministerio social de AMEXTRA, y con nuestra iglesia compaera ELCA, quien nos apoy con el trabajo de nuestra vicaria Elaina (hoy pastora), y ahora con el pastor Luke. He contemplado con gozo el nacimiento de nuevos ministerios iniciados en nuestra propia iglesia con despensas y otros apoyos para los necesitados que acuden a nosotros, con proyectos ecolgicos, con proyectos de jvenes, quiz modestos pero realizados desde el fondo del corazn. Me he gozado de la atencin constante a los nios, nias y jvenes, gracias Xchitl y Sandra, y de cmo algunos de ellos recibieron con gusto la primera comunin o la confirmacin, reforzando as su desarrollo espiritual. Y del trabajo de Eldaa con los adultos, ahora retomado, junto con Luke, de los estudios bblicos realizados en la iglesia gracias a la constancia de Gerda y nuestra querida Lilia Villaseor, y en casas gracias a la hospitalidad de la familia Garay y la familia Behiling, en donde se forjaron amistades entraables. Y por supuesto, tambin me he enriquecido con el trabajo cotidiano de Vasthi, Luke y Ruth y familia, y de visitas y plticas pastorales o slo como amigos con los dems miembros, pero tambin aquellas que he tenido con padres que han venido, a veces desde muy lejos, a bautizar a sus infantes; con parejas que han decidido realizar su matrimonio en la tradicin luterana, con gente que ha acudido a nosotros en tiempos de crisis, y para despedir a sus seres queridos en un servicio especial. Y todo esto, que me ha envuelto cada semana a lo largo de los meses, tambin ha encontrado su expresin de gozo y celebracin litrgica cada domingo, gracias a la fidelidad y los dones musicales de la familia Garay, de Martha Thompson de Turrent, de David Brondos y David Linares, de Gerda y Elda y Ana Caridad, Rogelio y todos nuestros msicos, y todas personas que han pasado por el Ensamble, y Too y Toms, nuestros ujieres vitalicios, y nuestro nuevos liturgistas. He estado, pues, en una situacin privilegiada dentro de ese cuerpo que son ustedes, cuando nos hemos reunimos como un solo Cuerpo, para recibir la Palabra encarnada, desde el plpito y desde la mesa, que nos hace uno en medio de nuestra diversidad multicultural y multilinge, pasada y presente, pues ah est el espritu de las familias y las personas que a lo largo de los aos han estado un tiempo, creciendo espiritualmente un poco ms con nosotros, en su camino. Una celebracin de una comunidad que en los ltimos aos ha estado siendo bendecida por la presencia comprometida de nuevas personas y familias que la han estado renovando.

Como ven, he escuchado a mi Padre de muchas maneras a travs de cada uno de ustedes, y eso que he escuchado y contemplado y tocado, es lo que espero haberles compartido como pastor, pero sobre todo, como amigo. Y es por ello, al ausente por algn tiempo despus mi jubilacin como pastor, para dar espacio al trabajo pastoral de quienes se quedan a cargo, me los llevo en el corazn, donde siempre han estado acompandome, y donde ms de una vez he dialogado con Dios sobre ustedes, y lo seguir haciendo, an si esta etapa de mi vida transcurre en otra parte. Gracias, muchas gracias por ser la Palabra de Dios para m a travs de tantos aos, ahora y para siempre. Con Amor de Cristo. Pepe. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. (John 15:15b) Dear friends of Good Shepherd, I hope you will let me use Johns words, which are also Jesus words as he said goodbye to his friends, so that I can say goodbye to you as your pastor. A friend is one that has shared, in word and deed, the most valuable thing you have with others. That which I have received, and that which is most valuable, is everything I have learned from my Father through Jesus Christ. Certainly one is always aware of their limitations and shortcomings, but one is also aware that through Gods Grace, that the Spirit which dwells in us, also transforms our mistakes into lessons. In this, I would like to share with you that Good Shepherd has been a sacred space in which God has been concretely present in my life. It was in 1972 that I first visited Good Shepherd with my wife. After having a reencounter with my faith a few years earlier, we visited Good Shepherd among many others, looking for a church. It was only one visit, as we were living in Puebla, but our visit was definitive. From that point, I began to discover what it meant to be part of Christs Body, and that which the Lutheran Church offered through Gods Grace, and that all believers in all denominations make up Christs Body. It is at this point when we went to study in Canada and the United States. It was completely natural that our church would be the Lutheran church, where we wanted to be. Eleven years later in our return to Mexico, we saw Good Shepherd as our spiritual home. Wendy was confirmed here, just as Keity was baptized. We and our daughters formed beloved friendships here, and it was from this church that we were able to pursue many ministries: education, social, pastoral, work with marginalized women, etc. We always felt like unofficial missionaries from Good Shepherd. I never imagined I would be the pastor at Good Shepherd. Through the church council, God called me to the church to help and support the other pastors. I firmly believe the in priesthood of all believers, so when I was officially ordained, I knew that my function would be to help the work of pastor Brondos and pastor Lpez for a short time. Without knowing it, my time extended for almost ten years because I was enjoying myself so much, until circumstances changed because pastor Lpez first and pastor Brondos left, and our expectations of a full-time pastor did not have the desired results. So, in a critical moment of our church, I made the difficult decision to assume full pastoral responsibilities, knowing well my limitations, but also knowing that I would be accompanied by our vicar Sofa Ternorio, secretary Maresa, beloved custodian Ruth and her family, and of course the entire congregation.

I believe it was at this point that I felt Gods Grace closest to me. Gods Grace was enveloping me through this community, His body, whose gifts came to support my weaknesses, and thus, I began to listen differently to what my Father said to me. From this point I was able to grow from within through that which He was doing with you. A brief review of what has happened around me in the past few years will give you an idea of what I would like to say. I have seen the hard work of a very responsible church council. It has been an invaluable source of support for our pastoral work and also one that has guided our process of renewal. I have witnessed the ordination of the first Lutheran women in Mxico through our initiative. One of these women is our Sofa Tenorio (who now has her own ministry in a sister church), and with it, the renewal of the Lutheran church in Mxico. I have been part of important church services during times of epidemics, and annual liturgical festivals throughout the year, including gatherings made possible through the coordination of Sofa, Ysela, and other women of the church. I have participated in the strengthening of our relationship with our social ministry of AMEXTRA, and with ELCA, our partner church in the U.S., who has supported us through the service of our vicar Elaina (who is now a pastor), and now with pastor Luke. I have seen with joy, the beginning of new ministries by our church such as food and clothing donations, and other support to those who have come to us in need. I have seen the beginning of projects pertaining to ecology and youth of the church. They are modest projects, but they come from the depths of the heart. I have enjoyed the constant attention of the children and youth of the church receive thanks to Xchitl and Sandra. I also enjoyed working with those who received their first communion or confirmation, reinforcing their spiritual growth. I have enjoyed watching Eldaas work with adults, and now with the support of Luke; the Bible studies at the church thanks to the consistency of Gerda and our beloved Lilia Villaseor; Bible studies in homes thanks to the hospitality of the Garay and Behiling families, where enduring friendships deepened. And of course, I have been enriched by the work done by Vasthi, Luke, Ruth, and her family; the pastoral visits and conversations, or simply as friends with all members. I have also been enriched by the conversations with parents that have come, at times, from very far to baptize their children; with couples who decided to be married in the Lutheran tradition; with those who came in times of life crisis; and with those who came to say goodbye to loved ones in special services. And through all of this, which has kept me busy each week throughout the months, there is the joyful expression and celebration of the Sunday liturgy. This is in part thanks to the faithfulness and musical gifts of the Garay family, Martha Thompson de Turrent, David Brondos, David Linares, Gerda, Eldaa, Ana Caridad, Rogelio, and all of our musicians, and all of the people have been part of the Choir, and our ushers Too and Toms, and our new liturgists. I have thus been in a privileged position within this Body that is you. We have gathered as one body, to receive the Word incarnate, from the pulpit and from the table, in the midst of our multicultural and multilingual past, and present. Also present is the spirit of the families and people that have joined us throughout the years in order to spiritually grow a little with us on their journey. One celebration of the community is that over the past couple of years there has been the blessing of the committed presence of new families and individuals that have helped with the renewal of the church. As you can see, I have listened to my Father in many ways through each of you, and that which I have heard and seen and touched, is what I hope I have shared with you as pastor, but above all, as a friend. And for this, I will be absent for some time after my retirement as your pastor to give space for the pastoral work for those left with its responsibility. I will take you in my heart where you have always been, and where more than once I have spoken to God about you, which I will continue to do, even if this next stage in my life is spent elsewhere. Queremos estar seguros de que la Voz del Buen Pastor contine siendo la voz de la congregacin. TALLERES DE PLANEACIN
Por Eldaa Ocampo Garca. Desde que se fund Buen Pastor, muchas personas entre pastores, miembros de la congregacin, lderes laicos, estudiantes de seminario, vicarios y muchas ms, han puesto su trabajo para que nuestra congregacin sea edificada. Ahora es necesario que nosotros continuemos la labor de edificar la iglesia de Cristo; de ser y de hacer discpulos de Jess; de organizarnos para alcanzar nuestras metas. La tarea no es nada fcil, se requiere de compromiso, de amor a Cristo y a nuestros hermanos, de ser sensibles a la voz del Espritu Santo y poner nuestros dones y talentos en accin. A partir del mes de junio, se han estado llevando a cabo diversos talleres de planeacin. Estos talleres nos han ayudado a comprender en dnde estamos, hacia dnde vamos, qu necesitamos y cmo estamos organizados, entre otras cosas ms. La meta final, es que podamos llevar a cabo un proceso que nos ayude a encontrar a un nuevo Pastor, que junto con el Pastor Luke, nos ayuden a recorrer el camino que estamos determinando seguir. Estos son los temas de cada sesin y los que ya se han trabajado: 1. Misin de Buen Pastor 2. Visin de Buen Pastor 3. Comunicacin 4. Organizacin 5. Educacin Cristiana 6. Mayordoma 7. Difusin y Evangelizacin 8. Proceso de Bsqueda para el Nuevo Pastor Nos falta bastante camino por recorrer, pero es necesario, as como es necesaria la participacin de cada miembro y amigo de Buen Pastor. Les invitamos cordialmente a tomar parte en estas actividades y juntos decidir cmo queremos trabajar como congregacin.

Planning Workshops
By Eldaa Ocampo Garca Since the beginning of Good Shepherd, many people pastors, members, lay leaders, seminary students, vicars, and many more have offered their service so that our congregation could be built. Today it is necissary that we continue this service of building Christs church to be and to do as disciples of Jesus, and to organize ourselves so that we can achieve our goals. This work is not easy. It requires committment, the love of Christ and our brothers and sisters, being sensitive to the Holy Spirits voice, and putting our gifts and talents into action. Since this past June, the church has been hosting a variety of planning workshops. These workshops, among other things, have helped us understand where we are, where we are going, what we need, how we are organized. The final goal for these planning workshops is that they will help us find a new pastor, who along with Pastor Luke, will help us continue on our path that we are determined to follow. The following are the topics of each workshop and the ones with check marks are the ones which we have completed. 1. Good Shepherds Mission 2. Good Shepherds Vision 3. Comunication 4. Organization 5. Christian Education 6. Stewardship 7. Evangelization and Outreach 8. Good Shepherds search process for a new pastor. There is a long way to go on this journey, but it is necissary, just as it is necissary that each member and friend of Good Shepherd participates. We cordially invite you to take part in these activities so that together we might decide how we will work as a congregation.

Total Ingresos/Total Income: $ 283,125.52 Total Egresos/Total Expenses: $ 385,285.96 Es importante notar que nicamente el 34% de nuestro ingreso proviene de ofrendas por parte de la congregacin. En el priodo enero - agosto 2011, hemos acumulado un dficit de $96, 580, con respecto a nuestro presupuesto para 2011. Dicho presupuesto fue elaborado tomando en cuenta los gastos mnimos indispensables, y excluye los conceptos de mantenimiento de las instalaciones, y incrementos salariales. It is important to note that only 34% of our incomes came from congregational offerings. From January - August 2011, we have accumulated a deficit of $96,580.00 in respect to our 2011 budget. This budget was based on required expenses only, and does not include expenses such as building maintenance and increases in salaries.

Instituto de Artes Vocales Ana Caridad Acosta

por Jos Luis Garay Hace seis aos, en Morelia, Michoacn, se fund el Instituto de Artes Vocales, teniendo como sede un pequeo local de 2 x 3 meteros donde caban un piano vertical antiguo en mal estado, un mnimo baito y 10 sillitas que se turnaban los chicos para no cansarse. Los jvenes que asistan a este pequeo Instituto, provenan de diferentes crculos sociales y econmicos, jvenes que se reunan bajo una idea que su maestra de canto les haba inculcado: SER MEXICANOS DE PRIMERA. La historia completa de este hecho sera largo de comentar, baste decir que una jovencita de 19 aos de nombre Diossana Herrera, a instancias y apoyo de su maestra de canto la primersimo contralto de la Compaa Nacional de pera, Ana Caridad Acosta y su compaero de clases Jaime Daz de Len, decidieron dar inicio a este proyecto ambicioso y al que muchos catalogaron como loco e impracticable.

Alumnos de Ana Caridad: Primer Concierto Ana Caridads Students: First Concert

A partir del da 25 de septiembre del 2011 y en conjunto con el decidido apoyo de Lutheran Rose, A, C a travs de su presidente la Lic. Mara de Lourdes Gutirrez Mancera, el ahora Instituto de Artes Ana Caridad Acosta abre sus puertas en la ciudad de Mxico, teniendo como nueva sede las instalaciones de nuestro amado templo del Buen Pastor en Palmas 1910, en Las Lomas de Chapultepec. El Instituto tom el nombre de Instituto de Artes Vocales Ana Caridad Acosta por decisin unnime de estos jvenes entusiastas y valientes, ofrecieron diversos conciertos ejecutando pera Italiana, Francesa, Checa, Alemana, Austriaca, etc., Lied francs y alemn, Cancin fina Mexicana de Concierto, Comedia Musical, y arreglos corales. De este instituto se han desarrollado jvenes con una misin: Sembrar la conciencia social de un mundo mejor tomando como bandera CANTAR PERA, por considerarse esta la mxima expresin de todas las Artes. A partir del da 25 de septiembre del 2011 y en conjunto con el decidido apoyo de Lutheran Rose, A, C a travs de su presidente la Lic. Mara de Lourdes Gutirrez Mancera, el ahora Instituto de Artes Ana Caridad Acosta abre sus puertas en la ciudad de Mxico, teniendo como nueva sede las instalaciones de nuestro amado templo del Buen Pastor en Palmas 1910, en Las Lomas de Chapultepec. La Iglesia luterana del Buen Pastor es misionera, entre sus objetivos prioritarios est la educacin y en conjunto con este Instituto cumple con este importante objetivo, ofreciendo eventos artsticos de alta calidad y difundiendo al exterior este concepto, posibilitando en un futuro la derrama econmica que tanto se requiere as como afluencia de todo pblico. La mstica del Instituto se ha conservado intacta: tica, Esttica y Moral en el quehacer humano, desarrollar mexicanos de primera con la idea de que el mundo ya es mejor donde hay una persona haciendo Arte. En das recientes este Instituto ya ha ofrecido en Buen Pastor un par de conciertos, el primero con repertorio de pera interpretando a Verdi, Puccini, Offenbach , entre otros grandes compositores y el segundo con msica de compositores mexicanos como Manuel M. Ponce, Mara Grever y Tata Nacho, entre otros. El entusiasmo de los asistentes, nos motiva a continuar en este proyecto y crecerlo con mas eventos y presentaciones. Iniciamos ya los trmites pertinentes para el reconocimiento de la SEP y con enorme gusto invitamos a las personas interesadas en desarrollar sus aptitudes artsticas de nuestra Congregacin a acercarse para juntos crecer en este proyecto. Hagamos de nuestra Patria y nuestro Planeta un lugar mejor, sembremos con msica, porque POR MEXICO, CANTPERA. S se puede!

Ana Caridad

Ana Caridad Acostas Institute of Vocal Arts,

by Jos Luis Garray Six years ago in Morelia, Michoacn, the Institute for Vocal Arts, was founded. It began in a small location that measured 2 x 3 meters that held an old worn out vertical piano, a small bathroom, and ten chairs where the students could take turns sitting so they would not get tired. The young people who attended this small school came from different social and economic backgrounds. They were young people who came together with the idea that their voice teacher taught them: TO BE TOP-NOTCH MEXICANS. The complete history of the beginning of this school is long, but it is enough to say that a young 19 year old woman named Diossana Herrera, through the urging and support of her very first voice teacher from the National Opera Company, along with Ana Caridad Acosta and her classmate Jaime Daz de Len, decided to begin this ambitious project that many thought was impractical and crazy. The school was named Ana Caridad Acostas Institute of Vocal Arts through a unanimous decision of the enthusiastic and valiant young students. They also decided to offer a variety of opera concerts such as Italian French, Czech, German, Austrian, etc. They also decided to offer songs of fine Mexican Concerts, musical comedy, and coral arrangements. Through this school, young people have been developed with one mission: To plan the social consciousness of a better world through the banner of opera singing that is considered a great expression of all of the arts. On September 25, 2011 Ana Caridad Acostas Institute of Vocal Arts opened its doors in Mexico City with the dedicated support of Lutheran Rose, A.C. and its president Mara de Lourdes Gutirrez Mancer. The school has a new space: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is a mission church. Among its priorities is education, and in conjunction with the school, this important priority is met by offering high quality artistic events. The events also share this idea with many people, creating a possible economic benefit that is needed just as it enriches the entire public. The mystique of the school has remained intact: Ethic, Aesthetics and Morals in human affairs, development of top-notch Mexicans with the sense that the world is better where there are people doing Art. Recently the school has offered Good Shepherd a pair of concerts. The first included a variety of opera from Verdi, Puccini, Offenbach, to other great composers. The second concert included pieces from Mexican composers like Manuel M. Ponce, Mara Grever, and Tata Nacho. The enthusiastic response from those in attendance has motivated us to continue this project and develop more events and presentations. We have recently began the process of receiving the recognition of SEP, and with great pleasure, we invite all who are interested in developing the artistic abilities of our congregation to come and join in developing this project. Let us make our country and our world a better place by planting music, because Mexico Sings Opera. Yes we can!

Al Espritu Santo se le representa de diferentes formas En la primera mitad del siglo III comienza a usarse tambin la paloma en las representaciones del Bautismo de Jess, donde, siguiendo el texto evanglico, representa al Espritu Santo. Esta identificacin de la paloma con el Espritu Santo ser frecuente y se prolonga a lo largo de toda la historia del arte cristiano.

THIS EARTH IS A GLORIOUS GIFT THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO US BY THE CREATOR, AND IT IS A GIFT THAT HAS BEEN ENTRUSTED TO US. AS STEWARDS OF THIS EARTH WE ARE CALLED TO CARE FOR IT, AND WE GIVE THANKS FOR GODS CREATION BY RECYCLING HARMFUL PLASTIC BOTTLES AND CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. SO PLEASE COLLECT PLASTIC BOTTLES FROM YOUR HOME, WORK, AND SCHOOL AND BRING THEM TO THE CHURCH FOR RECYCLING.

FOOD AND CLOTHING PANTRY The pantry was started so that we might be able to give immediate help to those who come to the doors of the church in need. We can always use some dry food or canned goods, so please keep us in mind when you do your shopping! DESPENSA DE ALIMENTOS Y VESTIDO La despensa en nuestra iglesia se inici para que podamos dar ayuda inmediata a aquellas personas que se acercan a nuestras puertas con necesidades. Todava podemos incluir alimentos no perecederos y enlatados, as que les pedimos que lo recuerden cuando hagan sus compras!
