Directors Notes
Enjoyment of our gardens, our clubs, and our environment
By Danielle Brabazon, Director, District I

I hope everyone had a fabulous summer! I have enjoyed all the fun of having my two children off from school, Danielle Brabazon running swim team carpool, tennis camp, and, of course, lots of gardening! Our Presidents Coffee was wonderfully attended at the home of Shirley Nicolai. I really enjoyed meeting the new club presidents and was thrilled to see representatives from clubs whose presidents could not attend. I hope all learned about the NCAs four schools and are able to share with your clubs this fall. District IV did a wonderful job hosting the NCA table at this past Behnke's day (June 9th). I have been in contact with the perspective garden club members and hope to help them find a club to join.

This is a busy year for the NCA. For a starterthis is the year elections are held. Please, if you have any interest in becoming more involved in the direction of District I, consider joining the District I Board. District directors and assistant directors usually serve two-year terms, and we have a vacancy in the Assistant Director position. Please contact any member of the District I Board to ask questions about the different positions and consider volunteering. A list of District Is Board members appears in this issue. You meet lots of neat people; and I, personally, have learned a lot of great things! District I is busy this fall! Our General Meeting is on Thursday, September 13, and we have a fabulous speaker: Ulrich Lorimer from the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens coming to speak to us about its newly overhauled native garden. Please plan to be at the US National Arboretum at 10:00 a.m. as we are not sure the auditorium is going to be ready but we do have the temporary trailer booked as our backup venue. We should know by the 13th which venue will be hosting; but, either way, District I is providing food and beverages. Club presidents will be contacted by a member of the District I Board to see what your club can provide for the event. There will be a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in helping out at the September 13 General Meeting. If you cannot attend on the 13th, please let me know if you are interested in helping in other ways. Our own Acorn Garden Club member Barbara Glickman will present a program on her just published book, Capital Splendor - Gardens and Parks of Washington, DC. Her presentation includes discussion of landscape garden design as a framework for looking at garden features through photos. Lastly, I would love to attend your club meetings, introduce myself to those I have not met, and share any information about District I and the National Capital Area with your membership.
