Carmelina Vargas Joins Latin FACES to Increase Breast Cancer Awareness in Latino Community
New York, NY / August 29, 2012 - Recording artist and breast cancer survivor Carmelina Vargas has partnered with Latin FACES, non-profit organization started by fellow Dominican immigrant Fary De Len, which is dedicated to strengthening family values with a focus on education and breast and cervical cancer awareness. Carmelina will be participating in and promoting Latin FACES fundraising endeavors including walks and special events. Fary De Len is such an inspiration. She is a breast cancer survivor who came to the US without speaking English. A strong woman who just wants to spread awareness in our community where silence about cancer is prevalent and really prevents early detection, says Carmelina.

About Carmelina Vargas Carmelina Vargas first appeared on the national music scene in the summer of 2008 with the release of her first single Mueve Las Caderas, a rhythmic modern Pop/R&B track infused with a tropical style. ASCAP Latino highlighted Carmelinas debut album titled Morena (Morena Records, June 9, 2009) as one of the most anticipated albums of the coming year. As things were heating up for Carmelina, she was diagnosed with early breast cancer. Using her music as a platform, she promoted breast cancer awareness through performances at numerous events for The American Cancer Society, and at the Latin Trendsetter Awards presented by LatinTrends Magazine. She also hosted her own 1st annual fundraiser at Latin Quarters, which benefited the Columbia University Medical Center Survivors Squad and The American Cancer Society. Her endeavors received national recognition from Congressman Charles B. Rangel of New Yorks 15th District. Her latest project Alegria is her first release since being 100% cancer free. http:// www.carmelinavargas.com/
