Hey Key Clubbers! August normally carries a bittersweet feeling; summer comes to an end and a new school year commences. However, we have some great events planned out to make this transition-- and the rest of the school year-more cheerful. As most of you already know, August is packed with fun events such as Sunnyvale's Centennial Parade, Key to College, and the regulars like ODB, FCF, and RAFT. But I would like to introduce a less known event that takes place in September. Regional Training Conference (RTC) is a one night camp that includes skits, informational workshops, a dance (or alternate activities), and yes, a campfire. There is even time allotted for completing homework so you don't have to worry about falling behind that weekend. This event will help you learn more about Key Club on the district and international level through fun and informational workshops. There are workshops for everyone, ranging from workshops for officers and members, to workshops for procrastinators. During this event, you can meet members from the entire Region 17 as well as Regions 9 and 15. RTC will take place from 12am on September 29th to 12am on September 30th at Camp Jones Gulch (11000 Pescadero Rd., La Honda, CA 94020.We will be discussing the event in more depth as it nears, but mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information. I hope to see you there! With Penguin Pride, Neha Mannikar

Presidents Periodical
Hey Key Clubbers! With the new school year just around the corner, I know everyone is trying to start the year off right! And what better way to do that than returning to and spreading the word about your favorite community service club? ;) I'm looking forward to another fun-filled year of spirit and service, a year of finding out just what it means to be a Fremont Firebird and a D34S Purple Penguin! I'd like to highlight several upcoming events to get us started on the right foot. As you all have heard, Sunnyvale's 100th Birthday is coming up, and is due to be celebrated August 25-26th! And of course, being such a big event, there's going to be a lot of festivities and fun for the entire community. Now THIS is where we as Key Clubbers come in. On Friday, August 24 from 3:30-6pm, we will be helping our very own Kiwanis Club with their Scarecrow Setup at the Sunnyvale Historical Society, which is just down the block from Fremont! (Pizza will be provided ;D) It's just another great way to actively participate in helping Sunnyvale celebrate such a momentous occasion. There are additional volunteer opportunities available during that weekend as well, and I hope that you all will come out to our very first major event of the year! Waddling in service, Serena Lau FHS Key Club President '12-'13

Officer Training Conference

Officer Training Conference (OTC) took place at Manresa State Park Beach on July 21st. Penguins were able to meet Key Clubbers from several other districts through informational workshops for members, officers, public speaking, important events, and more. In a sand sculpting contest, members donated to PTP(Pediatric Trauma Prevention) in order to vote. Together we were able to raise an impressive amount of money towards the prevention of serious injuries to children. At the D34S District Meeting, Fremont High School Key Club ranked 3rd place in popsicle points (shown by the penguin above), behind Cupertino High School (2nd) and Gunn High School (1st). Popsicle points are calculated by a club's MRF, TMRF, service hours, articles for the district bulletin, fundraising, and attending DCM's while wearing divisional t-shirts. FHS Key Club has a long history of being 3rd, and it's high time we take the challenge and be that number one. It's up to us as members, to attend projects and truly make a difference.
