What Islam Says About:

When it comes to religion, legitimate sources are essential to finding the truth and having the most correct understanding of it. It is for this reason, that one should seek knowledge, as well as to seek reliable sources when discussing Islam and its principles. All too often, (especially in America), the individual is bombarded with biased, incomplete/impartial, or stereotypical information from a multitude of outlets about what Islam is. Thus do I ask the reader, that as an intelligent individual, it is your duty to make a sound judgment on the sources you select as truth. Allah has gifted humankind with logic and reason, therefore let us use it for ourselves to decide what sources are accurate and what sources are there to slander or deface the beautiful religion of Islam.

All Muslims believe in Jesus (PBUH) and the prophets before him, as a devout messenger of Allah, who spread the teachings of Allah through the Bible. He himself told the people to worship one God and one God alone, and that there would be a messenger after him, prophet Mohammed, (PBUH). Allah blessed Jesus with the Holy spirit, but emphasized many times in the Quran, that Jesus was a messenger, not a son of God or part of a holy trinity, because that would be believing in more than One God. Women Before anywhere else in the world, women were first given rights when Islam came about. Islam states in many Quranic verses how a woman is entitled to inheritance , to divorce, and is equal to men before the eyes of Allah. Women, again, before even many developed countries formed, have always been considered an integral part of society, one that should be respected and cherished. Violence and War Contrary to popular belief, Islam was not spread by the sword but rather by the pen. In fact the first word in the Quran said to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) by Allah was READ. Islam emphasizes the pursuit of knowledge and forgiveness and teaches only to defend oneself from those who attack Islam. No other violence or reason for war, is acceptable.

The 5 Pillars of Islam

I. Al Sha-hadah (The Declaration of Faith): I declare that there is no God but Allah, and Mohammed, is the messenger of Allah. The most vital step to being a Muslim, (or someone who submits to the will of God), is the firm belief that there is only one God and that Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) is Allahs Messenger. This declaration also encompasses believing in the prophets and messengers that came before Mohammed (PBUH) and believing in Allahs angels and the Day of Judgment. II. Salaat, (Prayer): Muslims are required to pray 5 times throughout the day as Allah told His Messenger Mohammed. The reason for prayer is for remembrance of Allah and devout worship to Him. All prayers face the Holy Kaaba in Mecca. III. Saw m Ramadan (Fasting the Holy month of Ramadan): By refraining oneself from food and drink and resisting sexual actions, one can be closer to Allah and increase spirituality and further remembrance of Allah. Ramadan was not meant to put Muslims in hardship but on the contrary, Allah opens His Mercy even more so. Fasting Ramadan is all about discipline, self-control and modesty. IV. Zakat (almsgiving): Muslims are obliged to give a small percentage 2.5% of their annual income to the needy, the poor, and those who are less fortunate. This is discipline to help those who are less fortunate. By sharing ones wealth and sustenance, one can counter greed, and make society a better place, one which each person helps his/her fellow brother/sister of humankind. V. Hajj (Pilgrimage): if one is financially, physically, and mentally able to perform Hajj, which is the Islamic pilgrimage to the Masjid al Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, one should as it is a fard (or requirement) from Allah. Ones life is purged of all wrongs and has a new slate to life when this pilgrimage is performed, as Mercy and Forgiveness from Allah.

And We have not revealed to you the Book, [O Muhammad], except for you to make clear to them that wherein they have differed and as guidance and mercy for a people who believe. -Surah 16: Aya 64

The Glorious Quran

The Quran, the Holy Book for all Muslims, was brought down to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) by Allah in parts in the years 610 to 633 AD. It has been unchanged and preserved through time and to this day remains the same words Allah has brought down to Mohammed (PBUH). The Glorious Book of Truth also acknowledges the previous Scriptures before it (the Bible, the Torah) and covers everything: from the Oneness of Allah, to describing the Day of Judgement and the Hereafter.
