Chapter 3: Methodology In our experiment, three setups will be used; these will be labeled as setups A, B, and C.

Each setup will consist of a small water bottle, which will serve as the bulb, and a box. A circular hole will be cut out in the middle of the top of each box; this is where the bottle will be put. Another rectangular hole will be cut out from one side of the box; this will be used so we can observe the brightness inside the box. Strips of paper with different colors will also be pasted inside the box so the brightness inside the three boxes can be observed and compared more easily. The bottle bulb for setup A will consist of tap water and bleach; the one for setup B will consist of distilled water and bleach; and the bulb for setup c will consist of water with chalk dust, and bleach. Only a capful of bleach will be used for each setup. A teaspoon of chalk dust will be mixed with the mixture for setup C. The filled bottles will be put through the hole on top of the box (half of it inside the box, the other half exposed), and secured with clay. The setups will be observed three times a day (9am, 12pm, and 4pm), everyday, for one week. The brightness of the setups will be rated relatively; a rating of 1 will be given for the brightest setup, while a rating of 3 will be given for the least bright setup. The controlled variables or the things that will be kept constant in this experiment are (1) the size of the boxes, (2) the size of the bottles, (3) the amount of bleach and water

in each bottle, (4) the size of the holes, (5) the size and color of the papers inside the box, and (6) the time and place where well be observing the setups. The independent variable for this experiment will be the type of mixture in each bottle, while the dependent variable will be the brightness, which, as mentioned above, will be rated relatively.
