Learning outcome

: Pupils 1) design a test to identify the factors that cause rusting. 2) carry out a test on the rusting of iron. 3) State the factors that causes rusting

Prior knowledge

: It can generally assumes that pupils have seen rusted and non-rusted objects. However, they might not have seen of the factors that cause the rusting of iron.

Scientific skills

: Science Process Skill: 1) Observing; Students observe the rusty and non-rusty nails. 2) Predicting; Students predict which nails will rust and nonrust. 3) Controlling variables; Students name the fixed variable, manipulated variable and responding variable fot the test. 4) Experimenting; Students carry out test to investigate the factors taht causes rusting.

Rusty materials and non-rusty materials

1. Each student is given a worksheet. 2. Students have to answer the question. 3. Teacher asks students to tell their answers. 4. Teacher and students discuss their answers. Demonstration 1. Teacher show the rusty and non-rusty nail in the test tube. 2. Teacher calls a few students to show the nails in the test tube tio their friends. 3. Teacher explain about that rusty and nonrusty nails in te test tube. 4. Teacher asks why the nail rust and the other not rust. 5. Teacher asks students what are the factors that cause rusting. 6. Students discuss in their group and come out with their answer. Group activity 1. Teacher ask students how to carry out an experiment to know the factors that cause rusting. 2. Teacher ask students to state what is fix, manipulated and responding variabes. 3. Teacher guides students to design a test to identify the factors that cause rusting. 4. Each group is given materials and apparatus to do the experiment.
