Attention Karen Zucker, In 2003, my husband Kenneth Sacelaris and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary by purchasing a beautiful set of pottery plates from you. We love hand thrown pottery and used them every day. One of them cracked and in 2005, I ordered 5 additional plates so we had a set of 12. In early 2004, I started experiencing a number of perplexing health issues, which became severe by the end of 2004. By June of 2005, I determined that I had developed extensive food sensitivities, so extensive that I could only eat rice, broccoli, hummus and apples without experiencing severe physical and neurological (brain) inflammation. By October 2005, I was muscle wasting and could hardly speak. Through the care of several functional medicine physicians, I slowly recovered from a Chronic Fatigue diagnosis. A hair analysis in September, 2005, indicated extensive aluminum detoxification occurring. That was followed with a hair analysis of my husband, which similarly showed highly elevated aluminum levels. My physicians chose to focus on amino acid, vitamin and mineral supplementation, to stabilize my condition. I was able to return to my work as a research computer scientist at IBM in early 2006, in a very limited capacity. After another year of these therapies, I visited the Crossroads Clinic in Scottsdale Arizona where more tests were completed. One of these tests indicated toxic levels of aluminum in my blood. Metals directly measurable in the blood indicates current exposure, as normally metals are absorbed into fatty tissue and bone and challenge tests must be done to determine toxic load. After completing a water analysis of our well water, which showed clear of aluminum, I moved on to assessing the set of pots and the plates we had acquired just prior to the start of symptoms. The results that came back from Data Chem Labs in February indicate that the Sample: Plate 08E00477 had 1300 PPM of aluminum in the leach test. This is considered a high hit and does not pass OSHA or NIOSH standards. Physical health is affected by many things, however there is current research that directly ties aluminum toxicity to upregulating the TH2 side of the immune system, which drives food sensitivities and neurological issues. I have and am experiencing both of these health issues. I would like to discuss what options we have moving forward. Regards, Jackie de Vries Cell: 551-427-0274
