Music for the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games
To mark the closing of the London 2012 Olympic Games, we wanted to host a celebration of all thats good about London, British people, our music and our culture. And capture the spirit thats inspired so much global creativity over the past 50 years. We started with a journey through a day in the life of the city from early morning rush hour to glittering sunset before moving on to an extended symphony, formed of some of the finest moments in British pop. A love letter to our invention and innovation, its the pop music you know and love, by some of the UKs most successful musicians. British pop has underscored memories and moments in lives all around the globe. Like a celestial radio tuning through the unforgettable melodies that immediately transport you through time and place, our Symphony marries a spontaneous, unpredictable synergy of styles with a spectacular sense of adventure. This is London calling...

David Arnold
In 2005 London invited the world to the Olympics. The world rsvpd and in 2012 they arrived. The worlds greatest athletes arrived in our country in our capital with their thousands of supporters and millions more watching around the globe. And, over two spellbinding weeks, made the London 2012 Olympic Games one of the greatest ever. The athletes made London change, they galvanised the nation with their strength, dedication and endeavour to simply be the best at what they do. They made us feel differently about ourselves and others, in the best possible way. They were met by an army of volunteers, themselves eager to participate in any way they could. And those volunteers became as essential to the success of the Games as the athletes themselves. There was only ever going to be one way for us to thank them all and simultaneously celebrate the closing of the Games and that was going to be with music, our greatest cultural export (Im biased). It would be the foundation upon which we could build what is, hopefully, the best after-show party you could imagine.
So from all of us who wrote, played, recorded, produced and sang on this soundtrack, we say Thank you, and come back soon. Weve got enough amazing music to last us 100 Closing Ceremonies. Its almost a shame we can only have one. David Arnold Music Director London 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony
