You will have the opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of the daily life working on a farm as well as the delicate balance and harmony between people and their environment. You will experience first hand a way of life based on selfsufficient living and natural food. You will also learn about alternative clean energy and nonenvironmentally threatening uses of resources. Some of the activities will include: caring for animals, gardening, harvesting and cooking, team building, bonding with the community, learning the 100 ways to use rice straw properly without having to burn it, garbage recycling fashion show.

Subic
Subic is home to one of the worlds biggest as well as smallest bats and serves as a good model of sustainable development in the country. With an environmental focus, Subic also offers you an opportunity to make new friends, learn some basic team building and survival skills, interact with an indigenous tribe, and learn to understand the delicate balance and harmony between people and their environment. Activities will include outdoor challenges at the Adventure Park followed by survival activities such as the hike and overnight stay at the forest as well as working with the local school. The goal is to learn about sustainable systems for a selfsufficient lifestyle with the care of the environment at its heart.
Caliraya
You will carry on with the service learning which starts during the September visit to Caliraya. We will be working closely with two local Elementary Schools and Cottage Industries. You will have the chance to help deliver practical sessions to the Elementary School students at the school and Caliraya site. (PE, Music, Art and the more traditional reading and writing). Activities may also include a visit to the famous falls. There could be time as well of course for music, presentations, climbing and the famous mud slide, along with much more.
Stairway Foundation
Stairway Foundation is a rehabilitation center for street children and a center for the advocacy of childrens rights. It is located in Puerto Galera on Mindoro Island. This organization has been operating in the Philippines for the past 18 years and is heavily involved in using creative arts to advocate for the rights of children. The purpose of this trip is for you to develop a relationship with the children at Stairway and gain a much deeper and personal understanding of street children. You will be placed in small groups along with the Stairway children and be involved in various activities including outdoor education, sports, beach games and creative arts.
Makabata
Makabata is a school in Pasig City. The students that you will be working with are selected from among poor families of the community who cannot even afford to send their children to public school. The school site is a house in Pasig City. There are seven classrooms, a computer centre, a kitchen, a small library, and a basketball court. Your tasks could include: painting chairs, making murals, decorating rooms, organizing games, coordinating a musical experience, helping with lessons/instruction, tutoring The students from Makabata will also spend the day with you at ISM, where you will have the chance to run various fun activities for them to do that they may never have experienced before.
Batangas
The Brother Alfred Shields Marine Station in Batangas is our new CWW site. This site is affiliated with De La Salle University and students who choose to attend this experience will be working with university professors to improve the Philippine marine ecosystem. The site is a small marine station located on a beach in Lian, a short distance north of Batangas. Students who attend this site will participate in activities such as planting mangroves and surveying seagrasses and coral reefs to determine the health of the marine environment. Reef clean-up is also an important aspect of this site. Important Note: Good swimming ability is necessary for this site. Please see Mr. Hamlin if you have any questions

San Antonio Elementary School The site is a small school in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro Students who attend this site will participate in activities such as teaching elementary school students IT. The school has only just got electricity. Some painting and gardening will also take place during the morning sessions. Students will take part in team building activities; we will have sailing & other adventure activities. There may also be opportunities to visit stairway and see what work is going on there with the other group. Important Note: Good swimming ability is necessary for this site. Choices
Talk to the students in HS that have been there before or to the teacher leading the site. Dont let anyone decide where you should go its YOUR choice - its time for YOU to give back! There is limited space for each of the sites, so you will have to make your top 4 choices. Voting will take place in home room on Friday or in your own time. You should have received an email from Mr. Allen, respond to the email.
It was an amazing learning experience from the moment we stepped out of that bus and saw a sight very much different from the clean hallways of ISM. Its like all of us were hit with this Reality Truck that was screaming, Hey, the rest of the world isnt as fortunate as you folks. And from that first day, seeing all the animals not in the greatest conditions- but eating well and being cared for, all of us and most especially myself were inspired and motivated to improve the facilities for them. It was really weird how we were so distanced and afraid to speak to the kids when we first arrived and how by the time we left we were already so close that is was hard for us to say good-bye. ISM student
