KANATA NORTH NEWS Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North WARD COUNCIL NOV.

24 - 7 pm Program Room, Kanata Seniors Centre, Mlacak Centre

A lot is happening at City Hall and in Kanata North this month so it will be a busy Ward Council Meeting. A representative from Tega Homes will be present to show plans for the proposed development of 22 townhomes between All Saints High School and Stikine Drive. The development will be accessed from Kanata Avenue and needs to be co-ordinated with the upgrading of the road. There will be a discussion on changes to the KNL lands adjacent to the Goulbourn Forced Road (GFR). Urbandale has asked for a hearing with the Ontario Municipal Board to approve changes needed because of the new alignment of the GFR. Im concerned about any changes happening without public input. Ive asked Urbandale for a copy of their proposal to show you at the meeting. Ive also raised my concerns with city staff, which has resulted in them planning to recirculate the revised plans for comments once theyve been submitted. At City Hall were dealing with the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) that deals with both future transit plans and roads. The TMP is to be at Council on the Nov. 26. The TMP is a part of the Official Plan a draft of which will be debated at the Planning Committee on Nov. 24. The final plan will be tabled in January, followed by a final public consultation with a Council decision to occur in April. This plan is the policy document for future development in the City. We will discuss the implications of both of these documents at the Ward Council meeting. Other major issues are the City Budget and staff proposals to cut funding for outdoor rinks, increase fees for arenas, playing fields and community buildings, cancel or reduce bus routes and eliminate or reduce funding for many community services. Related to the budget are changes in the organization and staffing of management positions in the City. Ill also be reporting on my recent trip to China, on the Visioning Exercise held about the Main Street for Kanata, new traffic controls to be installed, the meeting this week with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and winter parking restrictions. Constable Strotmann will report on policing issues and youll be notified of upcoming community events. Ward Council is your opportunity to find out whats

happening in the City, ask questions and contribute to discussions on dealing with issues.

WINTER PARKING
From Nov. 15 onward, winter parking rules are in effect. Overnight on-street parking is not permitted when more than 7 cm of snow is forecast by Environment Canada. Cars also must be removed when snow removal is underway. It is best to keep your cars off the road during the winter months as a safety measure. Sign up for the Citys Winter Parking e-Alerts to receive e-mails each time an overnight parking restriction is in effect. Youll also receive an email if the parking restriction continues over more than one night and another when the restriction has been lifted. The service is free and you can unsubscribe at anytime.
