The Film Society is excited to kick off our 3rd season with the most acclaimed movie of the year based on the international best selling series by Suzanne Collins. Jennifer Lawrence stars as Katniss Everdeen, the Girl on Fire. Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl Tribute to compete in the Hunger Games where they fight to the death in a televised spectacle designed to entertain the rich. What happens when Katniss, who steps in for her younger sister, and Peeta, a boy from her district, are the chosen tributes to compete in the 74th Annual Hunger Games makes for a thrilling, compelling film you wont soon forget! Come join us for this special free screening. Adults and teens 13 and over are welcome. Teens, come in costume and get a free Hunger Games button. Well have door prizes and free popcorn. As usual, we will start our fall discussion with all the awesome books we read over the summer. Join us and bring your favorite titles to talk about and recommend. Be sure to pick up the book for our October discussion: Gaston Lerouxs classic tale of suspense and romance The Phantom of the Opera

Gardeners Roundtable Harvest Dinner The Gardeners met for the 3rd Annual Harvest Dinner at a River Road residence. Fifteen local gardeners shared dishes made from vegetables each had grown themselves from a variety of organic and heirloom ingredients. Eva Christensen of Earthtenders Compost Company on Rte. 11 treated everyone to a big bag of compost (for their garden, not their dinner!) and everyone was delighted to be able to take a bag home Goodwin Librarys favorite speaker Dr. Tomato and his wife (David and Loretta OConnor) attended and we are excited that both he and Eva will be speakers this fall. There will NOT be a September meeting, as everyone is busy canning and freezing their harvest.

Goodwin Library Writers Group Wednesday, September 26 at 6:00 PM Same time, NEW NIGHT, as we begin our 10th year of the Writers Group! If you are a writer of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, memoirs, songs (or cartoons!) or anything else that you would like to share we are a criticism-free zone and happy to support new or established writers equally, so dont be shy, come on down and join in the fun. Friends of the Goodwin Library Wednesday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 PM A huge thank you to all our Volunteers who helped us store, move, sort and sell over 3000 books at our Hay Day Book Sale. We made over $500.00 this year, our best year ever! Join us at our September meeting as we plan our Annual Fall Bake Sale, and our Annual Count Week. Gentle Reminder: Please remember to pay your Friends Dues. Every dollar raised through our dues and fundraisers is used to support Library Programs. Keep up-to-date on all our Friends activities at www.goodwinlibrary.org/friends Children & Young Adult News Another crazy, busy Summer Reading Program has ended.and we are celebrating yet another fun and successful six weeks of reading, crafts, entertainers and more! CONGRATULATIONS to the 170 children and teens who participated this year, reading 1,396 books, nearly 100 more books than last year! When we said DREAM BIG and READ! You knocked our socks off! Great job, everyone! In addition to reading books, our young patrons were engaged in a host of other activities that allowed them to earn stars for our Wall of Shining Stars in the Childrens Roombe sure to stop by and see this sparkling display of achievement! A HUGE thank you to all the wonderful folks and businesses who provided programs, supplies, donations, prizes and SO much more for the children & teens of Farmington & Middleton. Story-Times are Back! Registration begins Monday, September 17 for our Fall Story-Time Session. The Six-week session begins the October 10- November 14. READING WITH AVA Wednesday, Sept. 5 2:30-4:00PM Ava has returned from a refreshing vacation and is excited have her human friends reading to her again. There are still open time slots available. New Day & Time: Beginning Thursday, Oct. 4, Ava will be at the Library on THURSDAYS, from 3:00-4:30. Please call or email (755-2944, ext 3; children@goodwinlibrary.org) to make an appointment today! Genealogy Reminder: Our Historical/Genealogical collection is a secured collection and requires the assistance of Staff for access. Due to staffing limitations, we are unable to assist patrons on a drop-in basis. Please e-mail your requests to reference@goodwinlibrary.org and include your contact information. We will make every effort to find your information prior to your visit. If you have a library card, you may access our database Heritage Quest from the Library and/or home. We also offer ProQuest; however, this database can only be used in the Library. Visit www.goodwinlibrary.org and click the Catalog tab to access this information. Community Information Where to find: Farmington Community Suppers return: Beginning Wednesday, Sept.5, from 5:30-7:00PM at the Farmington Rec. These suppers are FREE Mustard Seed Caf hosts a community Sunday dinner on the First and Third Sunday of each month from 3:00-5:00 PM at the First Congregational Church of Farmington. Public is invited, donations are welcomed. Interfaith Food Pantry is open the Last Saturday of each month 9:30-2:00 in the basement of the First Congregational Church of Farmington. Donations may be made at any church or at the Library. All food donations for the Goodwin Library Food for Fines program supports the Interfaith Food Pantry. Blessed Bargains offers gently used clothes, toys, books and house goods at bargain prices. It is open the Second and Last Saturday of each month from 9:30-2:00. The shop is located in the basement of the First Congregational Church of Farmington.
