Career Services Profile

Career Services Staff at Mercer University School of Law


By Teresa Cajot The Career Services Office at Mercer University School of Law in Georgia provides students and alumni with the resources to explore career options and pursue professional success. One-on-one counseling, seminars, workshops, on-campus interview programs, and resume collection programs allow students to connect with their goals while accessing legal employers within the area and across the US. These and other services are made available through the hard work and dedication of the staff members of the Career Services Office.

The Assistant Dean for Career Services, Stephanie Powell, is a Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law graduate. She joined the law community in 2006 and is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the Macon Bar Association, The Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, and the Southern Association of Pre-Law Advisors. Hope Liipfert Martin, the Director of Career Services, is also a graduate of Mercer School of Law, where she earned her JD and a Certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research, and Drafting. Before joining the Career Services Office in 2007, Martin handled complex litigation, governmental work, and planning and zoning matters as an attorney with Almand & Wiggins. During her time with the law firm, she represented government agencies and private clients in federal, state, and appellate courts. Martin is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the National Association for Legal Career Professionals (NALP), the Georgia Consortium of Law Schools, the Southeastern Minority Job Fair/Board, the Spring Southeast Legal Hiring Conference,

the Macon Bar Association, and the Macon Young Lawyers Division. She holds a BA in History and Political Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jenia Bacote, the Assistant Director of the Career Services Office, holds a JD and a Certificate in Advanced Legal Writing, Research, and Drafting from Mercer University School of Law. She earned her Bachelors degree in English and Psychology from Emory University in 1991. Rachael Schell joined the office in 1998 as a director and now serves as a part-time career counselor. She also owns Schell Properties, LLC, a residential rental property in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Prior to taking on employment with Mercer University, Schell spent one year as a primary care sales representative within the pharmaceuticals industry and more than three years as a law clerk. She holds a JD from the Mercer University School of Law and a BS in Political Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
