Delaney Patterson 6/13/11 English 1 Reactions/Reflections to the quote/passage Right here it seems that Soda is trying to lighten the mood. Ponyboy, Soda, and Darry just had a big fight. Then Soda says this and it lightens the mood and makes them all laugh.

When I read this it really hit me. At first I didnt know what was meant by this. Then I realized what it meant was to stay young or dont grow up to fast. When I read this I realized how strong the bond was between Ponyboy and Johnny. They would do anything to keep each other safe. In this case Johnny killed to keep Ponyboy alive and safe.

With the way he was rattling off this plan, it seems as if he has had this plan for a while. Like he knew something like this was going to happen after a while. This made me weary of what kind of person Dally really was.

When I was reading this I started laughing. After reading this I realized right here Ponyboy actually used proper English and not gang slang.

The way he talks about his hair he cares more about it than he does anything else. I can relate to him your hair is your personality. Without your hair you are like everybody else.

Right here it really shows how much Darry cares for Ponyboy. Even though Ponyboy doesnt even see how much he care. You can tell by the way he talks to Ponyboy that he really does care.

This makes me think of how much he cares about them. To teach them things to help them in fights so they dont get hurt as badly. I think him teaching them these tricks was to help them in case they got in a jam and couldnt get out in a hurry, so this was to help them.

Listen, Soda, you and Ponyboy, Darry said as we strode down the street, if the fuzz show, you two beat it out of there. The rest of us can get jailed. You two can get sent to a boys home. Nobodys in this neighborhoods going to call the fuzz, Steve said grimly. They know whats happen if they did. All the same, you two blow at the first sign of trouble. You hear me? You sure dont need an amplifier, Soda said, and stuck his tongue out at the back of Darry head. I stifled a giggle. If you want to see something funny, its a tough hood sticking his tongue out at his big brother. (The Outsiders P.137) One week had taken all three of them. And I decided I could tell people, beginning with my English teacher. I wondered for a long time how to start that theme, how to start writing something that was that important to me. (The Outsiders P. 180)

Delaney Patterson 6/13/11 English 1 This made me laugh so much because when I read this I started thinking of my sisters and me. As much as we fight we still would be told the same thing by my older sister. Knowing us we would have done the same think Soda did.

This is what Ponyboy was thinking when he decided what to do his theme on. He decided to write about losing his closest friend, one of his gang, and someone he didnt know well. I think writing it all down is going to help him let it all go and go on with life.
