Five things you can do to save the NHS

n Support our local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to oppose NHS privatisation The Act means that the City and Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group (which has representation on its Board from our local GPs) is now responsible for buying most local healthcare. Our local GPs spoke out strongly against the imposition of the Health & Social Care Act. Our CCG plans to include in its constitution a pledge to the local community which means it will do its best to oppose harmful privatisation of local health services. It also pledges to involve the community in all key decisions involving the NHS locally. n Ask our local Labour party to publicise the effects of the Act and support the CCG to stand against NHS privatisation Join us in asking Hackney Labour party to organise local public meetings to publicise the effects of the Health & Social Care Act, to support City and Hackney CCG in their pledge, and to ensure that the Labour party nationally keeps its promise to repeal the Act. n March for the NHS on 20 October n Join the Patients Participation Group (PPG) at your GP surgery The Act says that there has to be patient involvement in health care commissioning. Your local GP surgery should have a PPG and joining this will enable you to be involved in the delivery of care at the practice. Ask the Practice Manager to initiate a meeting of the PPG, and the group can then work with other PPGs on commissioning and other borough-wide issues. For Homerton hospital membership, (another opportunity to get the patient voice heard) sign up here: www.homerton.nhs.uk/about-thetrust/foun-dation-trust/members. n You can refuse treatment supplied by private companies The Government says they are changing the NHS to give patients choice. Hold them to their word. If you are not offered an NHS provider, complain. And notify your GP of your wishes use the No Private Providers postcard which are available from: hackney.csnhs@btinternet.com, also www.keepournhspublic.com

We are working for the biggest possible turnout for the TUC march against austerity, and to ensure the NHS is central. We need your help. Hackney Coaliton to Save the NHS
