THE CURRENT ANTI CORReUPTION MOVEMENT IN INDIA LED BY ANNA HAZARE AND HIS SUPPORTERS WILL DELIVER THE

COUNTRY FROM CORRUPTION "Corruption is worse than prostitution. Prostitution endangers the morals of an individual; while Corruption places a question mark on the moral of a country Its high time we put our foot down on this national blood sucker called Corruption..... Good Morning Jury and my worthy opponent! I stand supporting todays proposition. Anna Hazare-This Modern Gandhi with the ancient weapon of Satyagraha was nothing but a catalyst in gathering the widest congregation on the expansive grounds of Delhis Ramlila Maidan. We. have had years of rampant corruption, inflation, unprecedented price hikes and a mushrooming demographic of youth who are increasingly frustrated with the SYSTEM. What we are seeing today is nothing but an outlet of this frustration encaged within our people!! Infact, 55% of Indians have had first hand experience of corruption. Just when somebody raises their voice against this gross injustice, the state brutally crushes it down. The whole point OF LEGISLATION stands defeated. Team Annas answer to curb the evils of corruption was the Jan Lokpal Bill; with an aim to effectively deter corruption, redress grievances of citizens, protect whistle-blowers and to address the inadequacies in the Lokpal Bill- a bill that would register and investigate complaints of corruption against politicians and bureaucrats without prior government approval. The detractors advocate Team Annas movement as a threat to parliamentary supremacy and a subversion of the Parliaments power; a narrow, middle class, upper caste phenomenon; dangerously tinged with authoritarianism and Hindu nationalismI would dismiss it as a strategy propounded by some spin doctor in the back alleys of Parliament. Another critique against Annas method would be that any false demi god might rise up tomorrow and try to sway the masses. Baba Ramdev tried in vain to join the Hazare bandwagon, but people rejected him.

Here, we arent focusing on the crux of the matter. The problem here is the pathetic plight of 1 billion people vulnerable to being sucked into the quicksand of Corruption. How do we deliver them? Justice delayed is justice denied. Its been 65 years!! We still do not have an effective legislation to curb corruption and that my friends is not even debateable. Anna and team made the best use of both worlds; time-tested, age-old proven strategy of Satyagraha, at the same time used the power of media and technology to spread the message within a fraction of second. If Gandhi led India for freedom from Colonists, Anna would lead us in a freedom struggle from Corruption. Being ranked as 84th corrupt nation among 180 nations; this government of the people, by the people and for the people should stop caressing the myth that it would remain untouchable and unaccountable. Most people think that the campaign is a straightforward one against corruption, but it is more than that. Its a movement with which the common man of India can connect with. For once you have a movement that is not run by people sitting in ivory towers; a movement that has transcended boundaries. The bottom line is will this movement end corruption? As the word implies, its a movement, and we are moving in the right direction!!
