Minimus-7 Metal Cabinet Speaker System
Your Minimus-7s use the latest mini-
speaker technology to produce sound
quality comparable to larger bookshelf
and floor speakers. They are small
only in size, not sound! A high-compli-
ance woofer element provides out-
standing bass, while the dome tweeter
produces crisp, clean highs. Careful
acoustic design matches the two dy-
namic elements with the enclosure and
damping materials, resulting in amaz-
ingly smooth and broad frequency re-
sponse. Your Minimus-7s can handle
1 to 40 watts of power.
SPEAKER PLACEMENT
Location and positioning are vital for
best performance of your Minimus-7s.
The ideal location is on a table or shelf
positioned near a corner or a room.
For many modern room settings, a
decorator shelf attached to a wooden
wall (or other acoustically hard sur-
face) greatly reinforces the sound
quality. If possible, place the front
edge of the Minimus-7s flush with the
front edge of the shelf. For best sound,
avoid floor locations. (Floor coverings
can absorb much sound.)
We urge you to play a familiar, wide-
range recording and experiment with
speaker placement until you find the
speaker locations that results in the
best sound for your needs.

Distance Between Speakers for Stereo Effect
Stereo speaker placement can be a lit-
tle tricky. For the best stereo image,
the distance between the speakers
should be about the same as the dis-
tance from the main listening area to a
point half way between t he speakers. If
the distance between the speakers is
too large, you might hear a hole in the
center of the sound. You can com-
pensate for this by angling the speak-
ers slightly toward the listening area.

CONNECTIONS
With the speakers placed in their ap-
proximate locations, measure the
distance from each speaker to the am-
plifier. Use speaker wire or ordinary
18-gauge lamp cord (zip cord) for dis-
tances of 25 feet or less. For distance
greater than 25 feet, use heavier 16-
gauge wire.
Speaker wire coded with a ridge or
stripe on one side makes the connec-
tion process easier. Radio Shack sells
speaker wire to meet most needs.
2
1. Remove the insulation from the
ends of the wire using a wire strip-
per.
2. Push the tab on the left speaker's
negative (-) terminal and insert one
of the wire ends. Release the tab.
3. Push the tab on the left speaker's
positive ( +) terminal and insert the
other wire end. Release the tab.
Repeat this connection process for
the right speaker.
Using the ridge or the stripe on the
speaker wire as a guide, connect each
speaker's negative (-) terminal to the
amplifier's corresponding negative ter-
minal (right or left). Then, connect
each speaker's positive ( +) terminal to
the amplifier's corresponding positive
( + ) terminal.
This connection procedure is called
phasing. Keeping your speakers in
proper phase is essential for maximum
bass response and overall perform-
ance.

or larger screw.
/ r ~
You can mount the Minimus-7 in ave-
hicle, on a wall, under a shelf, or on a

MAINTENANCE
Your Minimus-7 is an example of su-
perior design and craftsmanship. The
following suggestions will help you
care for the Minimus-7 so that you can
enjoy it for years.
eKeep the Minimus-7 dry. If it does get
wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids
can contain minerals that can cor-
rode the electronic circuits.
Handle the Minimus-7 gentl y and
carefully. Dropping it can damage
circuit boards and cases and can
cause the product to work im-
properly.
Use and store the Mi nimus-7 only in
normal temperat ure environments.
High temperatures can shorten the
life of electronic devices, damage
batteries, and distort or melt plastic
parts.
eKeep the Minimus-7 away from dust
and dirt, which can cause premature
wear of parts.
Wipe the Minimus-7 with a damp-
ened cloth occasionall y t o keep it
looking new. Do not use harsh
chemicals, cleaning solvents, or
strong detergents to clean the Mini-
mus-7.
Modifying or tampering with the Mini-
mus-7's internal component s can
cause a malfunction and might invali-
date the Minimus-7's warranty. If your
Minimus-7 is not performing as it
should, take it to your local Radio
Shack store. Our personnel can assist
you and arrange for service if needed.
