Understanding Christchurch Aquifers Aquifers are water-bearing layers which yield water in sufficient quantities to be a practical source of water supply. The diagram illustrates the distribution of the aquifers below Christchurch region. The densely distributed lines reflect that there is a considerable amount of water content below Central Christchurch. While aquifers provide clean water to the region, it makes Christchurch region more vulnerable to liquefactions in seismic events.

Line 1 From Kaipoi River to Kairaki The North-eastern Line has a rather shallow bore depths and a high amount of water content. This happened probably due to the intersection of Waimakariri River. The water circulation in this section is rather straight forward and more direction.

3 Dimensional Model
The 3 dimensional models show the condition the subterrainian condition of the aquifers, and the set of lines are generated from water flow simulation, and it show how the water behaviour in such conditions.

Line 2 From Hoon Hay to Pegasus Bay The west to east line cut through Central Christchurch has a deeper bore depths and a more sophisticated combination of layer of aquifers, and as a result the water circulation is more closely distributed

Line 3 From Avonhead to Pegasus Bay Parallel to the Hoon Hay - Pegasus Bay line, Line 3 has a thinner content of aquitards and a higher amount of water, as well as a more free-flowing circulation.

Line 4 Kaipoi River to Banks Penisula Line 4 spans from the North part of Christchurch to the South. Its thin layers of aquitards are good evidence of the west-to-east flow aquifers in Canterbury Region. As aresult, the circulation shows a more widely-spreadout pattern.

Aerial of Central Christchurch After Earthquake Red-Shaded area are areas that were severely damaged by the earthquake and are currently under cordon restriction.
CCDU Proposed Central Christchurch Recovery Plan CCDU has proposed a series of new buildings, precincts and urban strategies in Central Christchurch in the recovery plan. The selection of site for this project will based on current proposal.

Site Selection
The site choice was made based on the multiplicity of the location. The central city is located to the south, and the residential area on the north, along with the city green belt on the east. Also the site is located in the proposed performing arts precinct. All these create a fusion of programme and qualities to the area, and also opened up possibilities for the programme.
