OFFICE OF SOCIAL CONCERN AND INVOLVEMENT

Dear All, How are you doing? Just some few points since your JEEP Area Engagement Phase is about to end. 1.) Processing Your processing will under be the Philosophy Department. Since we really don't have a processing session, I'd like you to submit a short reflection paper discussing/ answering the following: > What are your significant experiences and insights during your JEEP area engagement? > Enumerate 5 new things you discovered about your self, your area/ sector, your co-workers Your paper should 1-2 pages long, 1.5 spacing, 1 inch margin each side, in short bond paper. Do not forget to out your name and area at the upper left hand corner of your paper. Submit your papers on or before September 12, Wednesday in my pigeon hole. 2.) Social Analysis Your session analysis is the last session to close your 16 hours of JEEP area engagement. Your schedule is on September 24, Monday, 4:30-6:00 pm at B102. one Come on time so we can finish on time or even earlier. The session will make use of the Sustainable Lives and Livelihood framework. And of the aspects in looks at is the available assets of your area in terms of different aspects. To make the session easier and faster, please describe the following before your session: human capital, social capital, natural capital, physical capital, and financial capital. You may try answering the following guides: Human Capital How are the people in the area in terms of their health, nutrition? What are the knowledge and skills available? How is their capacity to work and to adapt? Social Capital What are the networks available? (patronage, neighborhoods, kinship) Are there any relations of trust and mutual support? Any formal or informal groups available? Do they have any common rules and sanctions? What are those? Do they have any collective representation? What are the mechanisms for participation in decision-making? Who assumes leadership and how? Natural Capital What are the available land and produce, aquatic resources, trees and forest products, wildlife and wild food & fibers (if applicable)? Describe the biodiversity in the area What are the environmental services available? Physical Capital What are the infrastructures available? (transport, road, vehicles, secured shelter and building, water supply, sanitation, energy communication) What tools and technology do they use? Financial Capital How are their savings? Are there any credit/debit systems? Do they have remittances, pensions, or wages? Again, these are just guides. Do not limit yourself within these points. What is important is that you will be able to describe these aspects. You may write your answers in a size one paper. I will collect your answers during the social analysis session.
