SUBJECT MATTER Weathering of Rocks Ref: Science for Better Health and Environment pp. 209-212 and PELC p. ___Materials: pictures of rock formation Skills: Observing, Describing, Inferring, Science Concept: Rocks are always undergoing change due to their exposure to natural elements such as water, heat, as well as people, plants and animals. III. PROCEDURES 1. Present pctures of rock formations. Let the pupils infer why rocks look different. 2. Observe rocks in the garden. Find out how some of them have cracks caused by flow of water or growth of plants. Introduce the term weathering. 3. Perform the activity about how change in temperature breaks down rocks. Explain that forces such as wind, water, people, plants and animals breakdown rocks mechanically. However, because rocks are made up of minerals, these minerals have elements which when combined with air or water can cause chemical changes that also cause the weathering of the rocks. 4. Read the text. Answer the check-up questions. IV.EVALUATION List five factors that break down rocks. V.ASSIGNMENT Explain how weathering of rocks results in the formation of soil.

PAGTATAYA Tunghayan ang talata. Pag-aralan ang pagkasulat nito. Magsulat ng 5 puna ayoon sa natutunang pormat sa pagsulat ng talata. V. TAKDANG-ARALIN Sagutan ang pagpayamang Gawain sa aklat p. 164.
