THE LEGEND OF THE PINEAPPLE

Long before European settlers could colonize islands in the Pacific such as in Hawaii, there was already organized and civilized tribal kingdom in this island. The Tribal kingdom named Keekalekupu. It was ruled by their king name Maheeke. He has a daughter named Mauai. He loves his daughter very much because Mauai is so beautiful that even their male servant would adore such beautiful Princess, and Mauai is his only daughter. One day on their daily routine on their tribe, a young man appeared and presented himself as a fortune teller and he had a spell that could heal a wounded man. Nobody believes him because an experience and elderly man could only do it. He went to an old woman and took her hand and closes his eyes. Ah, you have a bright future old woman yes, I see it! says the young man. Oh really?.. thank you.. the gods smiled on me, says the old woman. About your lost bracelet, I think it was just under the jar, says the young man. Oh really?.. O-okay.. I must go now and look for it if its really there.. thank you thank you so much wise young man says the old woman as it rushes to her house. The people over there were a little bit impressed because of what they saw but still had a doubt. Suddenly people were starting to horrified when a rampaging ram was in amok. People are running everywhere but the young man stood still until the ram saw him and went directly to him. The young man calmly stood his ground and waves his right hand, the ram suddenly stops and look at him as if it was tamed quickly. The people who was hiding was wondering why, the noise has stopped when they saw it they were surprised. The young man now knows why the ram is in rampage, the ram was badly hurt, and it was wounded by a sharp-edged object. He slowly put his left hand through the wound and in just a blink of the eye the wound was gone so fast, then he let the ram free and calmly stands. The people then rejoice and an old man went to him. Thank you for saving us, young man here, please accept this gold as a token for saving us. Says the old man. Oh no, thank you sir.. but I think you must just keep it, youll be needing it. The young man speaks. So youre not interested with my gold, maybe Ill just introduce you to our king, I think he will be interested in you. Says the old man. Then they went to the house of king Maheeke. There they saw the king sitting on his chair and also there was his daughter Mauai. The young man was enchanted when he saw the beautiful daughter of the king, when Mauai saw the young man, she exchange a beautiful smile at him. Mauai was also impressed and adored the handsome look of the young man. Good morning my king,.. I didnt know you had a beautiful place and a beautiful daughter! says the young man. Well, well.. all are beautiful here. Someone tells me that you are a fortune teller and a healer.., is that true young man?.. says King Maheeke. Yes Sire, I am indeed what you have heard! says the young man with confidence. What is your name, young man? asked by the king. Forgive me my king, I forgot to introduced myself by the way my name is Peehokee my king. What a nice name you had, my friend. Replied by Mauai with face blushing. Hmm.. what did really in your mind that you came here in our village Peehokee? the king asked with suspension. I came here to fortune telling in your people your highness. Replied by Peehokee.

But.. as he continued. When I first saw your daughter, I fell in love so quickly.. My heart belongs to her now. Highness I want to marry your daughter, your lovely daughter! says Peehokee. What!? Are you serious? We dont even know you or even the place you came from! Now you want to marry my daughter? says the angry king who was shocked from what he heard. Mauais face is still blushing; she was shyer than anyone. She cannot look onto the young mans eyes for the young man is still looking at her. The kings face turned red and still cant believe of what he heard, he cant marry her daughter with some ordinary stranger, and he must be rich from a well-known family or kingdom. The king thinks carefully of a plan to drive away Peehokee and forget about the marriage. Ahh... I have an Idea if you want to marry my daughter, first you must defeat the big old crocodile that is living near the river, his name is Gahuro, he killed many of my people whenever they try to fish or fetch water on that river even the fish were gone because of him. He has been living there for many years and wont move to other place. Says the king with bad intention. He knew that this is a very hard and dangerous request, it is impossible to do because this crocodile is a bad-tempered and if anyone would be killed by this crocodile would ripped into pieces. The king was so excited; he knew that Peehokee would be in great danger. So they go to the river and there they saw lying on the sand, sleeping. They were so horrified when they saw the crocodile; it killed hundreds of people already. Peehokee is just calm; he went nearer and nearer to the crocodile, the crocodile took notice of what is coming near him. Hmmm.. here comes my lunch, you still dont learn your lessons huh? says the crocodile. Hold it, my friend Im here to talk to you says Peehokee as he approaches Gahuro. Gahuro was shocked of what he heard. What?.. you can speak our language, so you can understand of what I am speaking recently. Says Gahuro with full of surprised. I know what you fell.. I can foretell you says Peehokee. What?.. Youre not just a talker but also can foretell, hah? Thats weird! says Gahuro. The people watching them didnt know what they are doing; the other man said.. I think he wants to tame Gahuro and when he grabs him, he will kill it with his knife.. I think he will stab it in the heart because thats where the bad elements came from. No, no, no.. Said the second man.. I think he wants to poison Gahuro; when he open his mouth, he then quickly throws the poison in it. I dont know, lets just watch on what happen next. Says the other spectator. At the river bed Peehokee and Gahuro were still having a conversation. I know that you had broken your left back foot. SaysPeehokee. Yeah, I had it when some warrior-wannabe smashed my foot with a stick but I got him first, or else; I would be his trophy for his tribe. Says Gahuro. Since then, I never moved on this place ever. As he continues to say Let me see it your foot, let me help you fix it. Says Peehokee. Are you serious? How can I trust you? says Gahuro. Just trust me and believe me at least at this moment only. Says Peehokee. Peehokee touched the left rear foot of the crocodile. What is he doing? Is he going to break the foot of Gahuro? says the old man. I think he will stab it. Says the woman. I dont think so, the crocodile is just steady; I think he will carry that crocodile and throw it to the other river. Says the old woman. But to their astonishment after Peehokee touched the left foot, the crocodile began to move its feet and moved backward slowly. To their sight, the crocodile had gone to the water and began to swim.
