Express Fare Transport System I. INTRODUCTION.

Public transportation provides people with mobility and access to employment, co mmunity resources, medical care, and recreational opportunities in communities a cross the world. It gives benefits to those who choose to ride, as well as those who have no other choice. Public transit provides basic mobility services to pe ople especially those who do not own a car or other type of transportation. Effective transportation systems lead to the efficient movement of goods and peo ple, which significantly contribute to the quality of life in every society. In the heart of every economic and social development, there is always transportati on system whether it is positive or negative. Meanwhile, traffic congestion has been increasing worldwide because of increased motorization, urbanization, popul ation growth, and the changes in population density. This threatens the social a nd economic prosperity of communities all over the world. Congestion reduces uti lization of the transport infrastructure and increases travel time, air pollutio n, and fuel consumption. Therefore, managing and controlling transportation syst ems becomes a high priority task for every community, as it constitutes a matter of survival and prosperity for humanity. Intelligent Transport Systems also known as ITS is a system that qualifies as an engineering system, which implies that for its effective use, we need to go bey ond the technology. AFC (anu meaning nito?) is one of the transport related technologies that go und er the name of ITS. ITS basically involves the addition of information and commu nication technologies to transport infrastructure, in order to increase throughp ut and safety.

II. BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Living in a place where almost all of the resources are less modernized can some how degrade the part of those who uses it. For a country to prosper, technologie s must follow what is developing globally. An innovation in Fare & Transport System must be done using Express Fare Transport System. The Public Fare Transport System of Singapore serves as an in spiration for the researchers to have the eagerness to pursue this research. The ir system is a best example of an Automated Fare Collection which enables the go vernment to fully track the records and accountings made of the entire company. An Automated Fare Collection System can lead to the development of trans portation system. When the companies invested into this system, there can be gre at advantages for the travel agencies, the government, and for the commuters or passengers. EFTS (Express Fare Transport System) is the solution thought by the researchers. It enables full track to the passengers while they are on the way to their dest inations. Also, through smart cards the passenger doesn t have to worry about paying overpriced fares. III. OBJECTIVES The researchers have the willingness on pursuing this research for the reason th at the transportation system here in the Philippines seems to be moving backward s. The slow development of this system is the main reason why the researchers ca me up with the following objectives: 1. To develop a system that will help passengers travel in a safer way 2. To develop a system that will organize commuters seats without any disturba nce 3. To develop a system that uses a smart card which helps reduce those over

priced fares by some drivers 4. To develop a system that can track public utility vehicles while on thei r way for a full monitoring of the trip IV. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The researchers believe that this innovation of the Fare & Transport System is i mportant to distinguish its difference from the old system. This study wants to comprehend each of us the effects of having such a modernized transport system. The Express Fare Transport System can be beneficial to the local government. The government will have a tool for objective control and accounting of the work of public transport. This in turn allows for improvements in the quality of servic e to passengers, to improve the system of financing transport agencies and to pr ovide high quality expense forecasts for public transport budget. This study is also beneficial to the passengers. o They will get better transport service. Implementation of Express Fare T ransport System allows transport operators to buy comfortable vehicles for the c ommuters. o Express Fare Transport System enables the passengers to monitor the work of transport routes, thus allowing on time route scheduling. o The relatives of the passengers can track their trip. Because of the tra cking device placed on the bus, they can assure that the passengers arrived safe ly and comfortably. Travel Agencies and Companies will have an advantage to this system. o Those passengers who will try to use fake cards for free ride will pay a penalty, 10 times the normal fare. In that case, no one would try to violate th e Express Fare Transport System. o The taxes paid by the travel agencies are only estimates of the number o f passengers. But because of EFTS, the payments will be based on actual data. Th us, decreasing the taxes payable and increasing the funds for labor and for the improvements of the quality of service. o There is more detailed information from EFTS about each stop on a route and the number of passengers by time of day makes it possible to manage the work of vehicle on a route, and thereby strengthen the labor discipline of drivers.
