Welcome
The original school buildings were officially opened on 23 October 1928 by Eustace Percy, 1st Baron Percy of Newcastle. Stretford High School was opened on the Greatstone Road site following the merger of Stretford Boys and Girls Grammar Schools. Stretford High School was officially opened by Sir Alex Ferguson CBE on behalf of the late Sir Matt Busby, on 12th October 1992.

I am privileged to be the Headteacher of Stretford High School. I am very proud to lead a school where pupils demonstrate their commitment to learning through their smart appearance, good manners, exceptional behaviour and hard work.
Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow is the fundamental tenet at Stretford High School. It is our mission and message to ensure that EVERY young person is prepared for their next steps in education and life regardless of background. We believe ability is down to hard work and we expect members of our community to come to school to learn and achieve beyond what they thought was possible; we do not expect anything less. The school values of respect, creativity, independence and drive are at its heart. We believe students who demonstrate a commitment to such values are rewarded with success. To help us to achieve this goal we try to balance academic work with a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities, and we value sporting and cultural achievement equally. We also have a team of dedicated and highly talented professionals, who are committed to high expectations for our learners. We have a commitment to developing student leaders, who are bidding to become the leaders of their generation. The school offers state of the art facilities within an iconic grammar school building and a wide range of personalised courses and enrichment activities through a highly structured, inclusive, innovative approach to learning, leading to qualifications at all levels. It is our vocation to recognise and realise the talent and potential of all our learners, in a safe learning environment with high expectations. Young people have a wonderful opportunity to learn how to shine and then achieve at Stretford High School. We are passionate about potential and are considered to be a very caring school. Relationships are very strong between young people and teachers at Stretford High; a school that is small enough to be recognised in, but big enough for children to flourish and where the learners of today become the leaders of their tomorrow.

Creativity
The school has invested heavily in the latest facilities and resources to create an inspirational learning environment. The school also takes great care to ensure that the latest teaching research inspires teaching and results in effective learning. Weve invested in the latest software meaning that our students can make the maximum impact with their ideas in the most relevant way. Students are actively encouraged to make connections in their learning and student creativity is celebrated at every opportunity.

Our schools philosophy is that you cannot respect yourself if you cannot respect those around you: whether it that be teachers, fellow pupils, family and friends or our local community. Unique Opportunities
Our students are an active part of our community, taking part in work for local projects and charities. We aim to shape the way students experience the world, embodying respect through their local communities and changing the world around them.We provide memorable opportunities to enrich our students academic curriculum, holiday time and after school activities that help shape the way they think about the world and the way their community thinks of them. We are proud that our students raise considerable amounts of money for charities. Over the last few years our students have helped the Poppy Appeal, the NSPCC and the Red Nose Day appeal - where they raised funds for our partner schools in India and Sierra Leone. Our students created a poetry banner for St. Johns Church with Lemn Sissay, the official poet for the 2012 Olympic games; their fantastic work celebrating the Stretford area is now a landmark in the community. Our students led a campaign to celebrate the lives of the Busby Babes, the Manchester United Players who tragically died in the 1958 Munich Air Disaster. Students celebrated the memory of 2 Busby Babes by having Blue Heritage Plaques installed at the local houses Duncan Edwards and Tommy Taylor used to call home. Stretford students were invited to join forces with Trafford Council and other community projects to create some stunning Monet, Picasso and Banksy inspired subway art underneath Chester Road to brighten up their area, encouraging others to take pride in the subways.

The pupils from Stretford High School have done a fantastic job to ensure that two remarkable players, whose lives were cut tragically short, will forever be remembered in their local community.

Big Picture Learning

SSAT Most Improved School in North-West 2010 Rated OUTSTANDING by Ofsted in 2008 Commended by Ofsted in an Outstanding Practice Visit in 2010 Teaching at Stretford centres on the individual and encourages young people to study independently, and to think for themselves a vital preparation for Further Education, University and beyond. Small classes and exceptionally good teacher-pupil relationships enable pupils to develop their talents to the full. A strong learning support department enables those with special educational needs to achieve. Following a specialised primary transition programme students join our Busby School aged 11. This is our unique project based learning curriculum. There is a daily focus on Reading, Writing, Spelling, Communication and Numeracy through a themed approach. In addition learners receive weekly instrumental tuition and there is a dedicated team of staff to attend to the achievement, progress and pastoral care of our first year students. Students graduate from Busby at the end of their first year in to one of our 4 Houses; King, Redgrave, Theresa and Gandhi. This features vertical tutoring in Years 8-11 were the learners stay with the same Head of House and Learning Tutor. Assemblies and inter-house events create a house identity. Students also follow a project STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) curriculum in Year 8. KS4 starts in Year 9 with bespoke curriculum packages designed by the individual learners with the guidance of teachers. Students are guided through one of many pathways depending on their prior attainments, talents and interests. Key Stage 4 pathways offer an individual package where every student is given the best opportunity to succeed. Students are also supported in FE applications and tracked through college.

It is important to us that teachers know enough about each student in their class to ensure that they can access the curriculum in the most appropriate and effective way. We believe that all students at Stretford can achieve with the right support. Intervention in many forms is in place to support students who need some extra help. We have partnerships with key Extended learning services, we have specialists in Dyslexia, English as an Additional Language, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Children who are Looked After. We have a team of Teaching Assistants and Learning Mentors based in each House to provide on tap specialist support where required.

Opportunities

We want our students to make the most of every second of their high school career. We provide a diverse range of co- curricular opportunities to enrich each and every student. Our dramatic productions, musical extravaganzas (Hootenanny/Stretfest) and concerts challenge pupils to develop their many talents, and enable them to grow in confidence. Musicians of all ages and abilities play or sing in a range of instrumental and vocal groups. Standards are high, with prestigious Stretford Music scholarships on offer. Stretford High is also the countrys largest Rock School exam centre. School sport is extensive with local, national and international fixtures. Handball club, swimming club, dance club and athletics club are recent additions to the schools strong tradition of producing outstanding sports teams. The addition of the state of the art fitness suite to the school impressive facilities also caters for students who want to meet their personal fitness targets.
