THE COGNITIVE LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT OF BIOLOGY PREDICTED FROM EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT (EQ) AND LEARNING READINESS OF FIRST STUDENTS

GRADE OF SMA NEGERI 7 SURAKARTA IN ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2011/2012 Resty Hermita, Puguh Karyanto, dan Alvi Rosyidi Biology FKIP Sebelas Maret University ABSTRACK This research is aimed to know relationship between: 1) Emotional Quotient (EQ) and cognitive learning achievement of biology of first students grade of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012, 2) learning readiness and cognitive learning achievement of biology of first students grade of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012, 3) Emotional Quotient (EQ) and learning readiness with cognitive learning achievement of biology of first students grade of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012. This was a kuntitatif correlational research. The population were all of the students first grade of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012. The sample was taken among 74 samples of student using simple random sampling technique. Test technique was used to uncover students emotional quotient (EQ), documentation technique was used to uncover students cognitive learning achievement, while learning readiness was measured by using queationnaire. The obtained data was analysed using correlation regression analysis in SPSS 17. The result showed that (1) there is corellation between emotional quotient (EQ) and cognitive learning achievement of biology of first students grade of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012, 2) there is corellation between learning readiness and cognitive learning achievement of biology of first students grade of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012, 3) there is corellation between emotional quotient (EQ) and learning readiness with cognitive learning achievement of biology of first students grade of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012. The three aforementioned correlation are considered as significant and positive valuable. Each of independent variable that is emotional quotient (EQ) and learning readiness has contribution to dependent variable, that is cognitive learning achievement of biology. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara: 1) Emotional Quotient (EQ) dengan hasil belajar kognitif biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta tahun pelajaran 2011/2012, 2) kesiapan belajar dengan hasil belajar kognitif biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta tahun pelajaran 2011/2012, 3) Emotional Quotient (EQ) dan kesiapan belajar dengan hasil belajar kognitif biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta tahun pelajaran 2011/2012 This research aims to ascertain the relationship of 1) Emotional Quotient with students cognitive achievement of biology in 1st class, 2) students learning preparedness with students cognitive achievement of biology in 1st class, 3) students Emotional Quotion with learning preparedness. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif korelasional. Populasi adalah seluruh siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta tahun pelajaran 2011/2012. Sampel diambil dengan teknik simple random sampling sejumlah 74 siswa. Teknik pengumpulan data Emotional Quotient (EQ) menggunakan metode tes, hasil belajar kognitif menggunakan metode dokumentasi, sedangkan kesiapan belajar diukur dengan angket. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah statistik analisis korelasi regresi dengan SPSS 17. This research was considered to correlational quantitive approach. All student in the 1st class was used as population in this research. Sample of this research was taken by cluster random sampling and total of sample were 74 students. The data was collected through four kinds of method, namely test, documentation, and questionnaire. Test method was used to know students emotional quotion. Students learning preparedness was taken by questionnaire, and documentation method was used to get studens cognitive achievement. Hasil penelitian mendapatkan bahwa 1) terdapat hubungan antara Emotional Quotient (EQ) dengan hasil belajar kognitif biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta tahun pelajaran 2011/2012, 2) terdapat hubungan antara kesiapan belajar dengan hasil belajar kognitif biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta tahun pelajaran 2011/2012, 3) terdapat hubungan antara Emotional Quotient (EQ) dan kesiapan belajar dengan hasil belajar kognitif biologi siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta tahun pelajaran 2011/2012. Hubungan dari ketiga hipotesis tersebut bernilai positif dan signifikan. Masing-masing variabel bebas yaitu Emotional

Quotient (EQ) dan kesiapan belajar memiliki kontribusi terhadap besarnya variabel terikat yaitu hasil belajar kognitif biologi. The conclution was that, 1) there was a relation between students emotional quotion and students cognitive achievement, 2) students learning preparedness had a relationship with students cognitive achievement, 3)students emotional quotion had a relationship with students learning preparedness. the ralation of two components of hypothesis was significant and positive. Emotional quotion and student learning preparedness as variable of this research contributed to students cognitive achievement.
