BEE rating Introduction Feeding The Self is a project of Apotheosis (Public Benefit Organisation) 930038248, Registered 07 February 2012 Level 4 / exempt (less than R5m per annum turnover) FTS is an NGO dedicated to helping people make the most of the resources around them, from the land to their grannies. Food security, community development & sustainability, educational development Rural & under-resourced schoolchildren & associated communities Feeding The Self began with a project designed to make education accessible through presenting natural science, math, life orientation and language activities using the garden as a classroom in February 2011. It has developed through a broad range of educational and environmental improvement and support activities since then. To create real sustainability To give those that need it help for minimal cost To reduce reliance on the government To foster real community and local ownership To leverage and maximize local human & community resources To develop communities and persons holistically, from the ground up. The 12 session school project focuses on education through food security, emphasizing holistic personal, psychological and community development. Results gathered indicate significant improvement on academic, social, environmental & psychological criteria, gardens planted in at least 50% of childrens homes in all projects, other positive outcomes (see results documentation at Scribd archive). Permaculture workshops - low-impact/ low-cost location improvement Consultations on sustainable practices & permaculture techniques Networking events management Information provision guides on gardening & education Providing detailed information, reporting & analyses English language support (Olympiad lessons, teacher support material)
