Family Structure, Characteristics and Dynamics The Reyes Family is composed of 5 members. The father, Noel Reyes is 29 years of age. His wife, Marie Reyes is 32 years old. They have three children namely Kim who is 5 years old, Nicole who is 3, and Maria who is 1 year old. B. Socio-economic and Cultural Characteristics Mr. Reyes works as an electrician and his salary is enough for their day to day expenses. His wife, Mrs. Maria Reyes, helps in meeting the familys needs and works as a saleslady in a grocery near their residence. Their two children are studying in a public school and they see to it that they give sufficient support to them. Mr. and Mrs. Reyes are both undergrad because of lack of money. Most of the time, the father decides for the family but he also considers suggestions from his wife. The mother budgets all the expenses of the family. C. Home and Environment 1.Home The familys home is located at Bgy. Tatalon District IV, Quezon City. Their house is rented and is said to be made using mixed construction materials. They have one room for sleeping. The parents with their one year old child stays in the bed while the other two sleeps on the floor with an extra mattress. They have sufficient electricity supply in their home. 2. Drinking Supply The family drinks through a private supplier, named as Maynilad. They store their water in a large covered container. 3. Kitchen The family uses gas stove in cooking foods. They store them in a refrigerator when there are left overs. They have an open drainage. 4. Waste Disposal All their garbages are covered properly. They are collected every Wednesdays. They have a flush type toilet and is maintained regularly. 5. Domestic Animals They have no pets at home or any domestic animals. 6. Community In their community, there is positive congestion for the houses are very near each other. They are prone to accident hazards such as fire. There

can also be breeding sites of mosquitos which can cause them different diseases. There is a near health center in their house which is about 300 yards or is equivalent to a 3-minute walk. D. Health Status of each Family Member The family eats three times a day. The mother sees to eat that the children gets adequate nutrition. She loves to cook fish, vegetables, and chicken. The common illnesses in the family are cough and colds. As I have interviewed the mother, I have noticed that she has a healthy hair, symmetric facial features, short sized extremities, and a height of about 49 tall. E. Values, Habits, Practices on Health Promotion, Maintenance and Disease prevention The children are fully immunized since birth. The family is fond of walking and uses it as an exercise since the school and the work place is near their house. Whenever a family member is sick, the mother immediately consults a health center every time they acquire such symptoms.
