John 1:14 The MSG The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish. In the context of the powerful work of the Gospel this incredible profound completed work that redeemed mankind. I have been thinking about Fathers. I have repeated dreams about my own father and my desire to hear his voice again or to ask him a question. Also been praying for and thinking about the upcoming Prayer Summit and our desire to not loose the word the Lord spoke over us about being Spiritual Fathers. Two nights ago in the context of a discussion-study group about the Gospel a practical question was raised. Simply put how do I take this message about all that God has done in the cross and translate it to my children in a living way? It provoked something in me. Most of what I have experienced of parenting is centered around instruction and correction. Interestingly this is the primary model we seem to experience of leadership in the church today. I am not implying that instruction and correction are not a part of parenthood or leadership. However when Parenthood is reduced purely to instruction and correction there are some profound missing pieces. And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men. Luke 2:52 NASB And Jesus matured, growing up in both body and spirit, blessed by both God and people. Luke 2:52 MSG Wisdom and maturity are grown in the safe atmosphere of nurturing love. So as I have been praying into this idea over the past couple days a few thoughts have settled over my own spirit: I am more convinced than ever that it is the full intention and expectation of God to manifest the Authority of Heaven on the earth through the church. Eph 3:10-11 I am of an increasing conviction that this is not so much about revival 'outbreak' as it will be Heaven 'inbreak'. That is that the normal reality of God ruling and reigning will be visible and demonstrated in signs, wonders and miracles while the Lord is adding to our number daily. I am convinced now more than ever that this will come as a result of Gods people agreeing with what He has done resting in His work and not trying to do more of their own. I am also convinced that all of this will be in a context not as Church organization but the living organism that God gave us to experience as an example: One Word Family! Family The context of the redemption and redeeming love is supposed to be the context of this nurturing life caring organism called the family. The context of Church in much of the world especially the west has been strongly influence by the Greek and Roman models: And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Instruction is information that is given in a monologue. Correction is all to often primarily given and directed towards external behaviors. Leadership as a result is all to often primarily focused on management as opposed to 'life on life' and nurture. Our end result is that we have buildings and organizations filled with people who all to often live with closed hearts to one another yet call themselves family. 1 John 3:16-18 - leaders with closed hearts has led to a crisis of Fatherlessness There are a lot of people around who cant wait to tell you what youve done wrong, but there arent many fathers willing to take the time and effort to help you grow up. 1 Cor 4:15 MSG All this to say I am convinced that we need to continue to seek the Lord for a spirit of revelation about this issue of Spiritual Fathers and Mothers this is not an age related calling but rather an awakening to Redemption that is lived in a visible Redemptive context Family. Family - who have begun to discern that what the Body of Christ in this generation is in great need of is the Word being made flesh in the context of family. That this River of Life (John 7:37-38) is manifesting. That I am in The Father and that He is in me(John 14:20)! And as a result, all that He has said of Himself (Exodus 34:6-7) is flowing through me giving and nurturing life to everyone I touch. The Word Made Flesh - ( Christ in You Col 1:27) Spiritual Fathers, Mothers and Family. Who live with their hearts and lives open 1 John 3:16-18. Who are convinced that the very agenda of Heaven is more about their ability to discern the Goodness of the Father and to call it into being in the lives of others than it is to attempt to direct and correct in the lives of others. Who are convinced that that God will take simple outragious love and accomplish more than could ever possibly be accomplished by programs and plans dreamed in the heart of men. Who will declare without shame that there is a River flowing from within their belly and that River is called Love! Who will model Love above any other virtue! Who will invest out of their own resouce with an open heart to the next generation because that is what fathers do! Who will reject the attitude and culture of the day that demands their personal needs be met at the expense of someone else. Who will live in stunning fascination of the Completed Work of the Cross and reject anything that would add to this work. Oh that the Living Word would be Made ( Ginomai ) flesh in us! Living the reality of redemption in real lives. Daily I am looking at the real results of a life without a Father and/or Mother and living in the wonder of trusting God to redeem all that has been stolen, fragmented and broken. In a Fatherless generation the Orphan is more common than not. In fact one might say that we have a generation of leaders who lead out of an orphaned spirit. What happens when we lead from an Orphaned Spirit? Orphaned children are unbonded children who often can function at high levels but remain unable to connect emotionaly in love with others. Much has been documented about this critical area of a childs life. If they never attach many times find themselves in destructive behaviors and lifestyles but more important they live in heart isolation seeking to be their own protection from the uncertainties of life. In this place they will intentionally avoid close nurture for the safety of control and in turn use people as a means to get what they want. IE The car salesman who greats you as if they really want to know you . but...you know they don't. As a new parent of abandoned children we have come to recognize that our single greatest job is to by the Grace of God form heart bonds. My friend Derek Loux said it so well when he stated that he simply wanted his children to live in the benefits of his love. To do so is costly, exhausting, expensive and outragious! But is in reality what a Father ( and Mother ) live for that their children will live in the benefit of their love. How odd it would be for my children to be weeping in the corner of their room worried if they will have food, clothing or shelter? Now a grave temptation as a parent that I have dealt with is when my children have done just the opposite and seem to take for granted all that is provided for them. And while yes we must raise our children to be grateful and considerate isn't it the truth that they should be able to count on their parents to care for them. And when they cannot something fundamentally goes astray in their heart they believe they are on their own orphans! In these terms? I see a generation of orphaned children in the Church. Many who have grown and now become leaders in the Church. Leaders who have defined Church as a tool to make life work rather than a family where one can be nurtured and can mature. A place where instruction is about information where correction is about conformity. Where heart formation and relationships have taken a back seat to organization form and function. What does Ginomai look like today? Is it perhaps not as complicated as we have believed? Paul stated it so clearly in 1 Cor 13 to have all the things that we as religious leaders would call success eloquence, stunning spiritual gifts, remarkable power, unmatched insight and wisdom, unbridled generousity but did not possess the epicenter of the Fathers heart Love, it means absolutely nothing. Maybe there is more to Love than we have ever known ( Eph 3:14-21).

1 John 4:10-12 MSG (emphasis mine) This is the kind of love we are talking aboutnot that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage theyve done to our relationship with God. My dear, dear friends, if God loved us like this, we certainly ought to love each other. No one has seen God, ever. But if we love one another, God dwells deeply within us, and his love becomes complete in usperfect love! And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Ginomai to Come into Existance in us... 1 Corinthians 4:1-16 The Message (MSG)(ephasis mine) 4 1-4 Dont imagine us leaders to be something we arent. We are servants of Christ, not his masters. We are guides into Gods most sublime secrets, not security guards posted to protect them. The requirements for a good guide are reliability and accurate knowledge. It matters very little to me what you think of me, even less where I rank in popular opinion. I dont even rank myself. Comparisons in these matters are pointless. Im not aware of anything that would disqualify me from being a good guide for you, but that doesnt mean much. The Master makes that judgment. 5 So dont get ahead of the Master and jump to conclusions with your judgments before all the evidence is in. When he comes, he will bring out in the open and place in evidence all kinds of things we never even dreamed ofinner motives and purposes and prayers. Only then will any one of us get to hear the Well done! of God. 6 All Im doing right now, friends, is showing how these things pertain to Apollos and me so that you will learn restraint and not rush into making judgments without knowing all the facts. Its important to look at things from Gods point of view. I would rather not see you inflating or deflating reputations based on mere hearsay. 7-8 For who do you know that really knows you, knows your heart? And even if they did, is there anything they would discover in you that you could take credit for? Isnt everything you have and everything you are sheer gifts from God? So whats the point of all this comparing and competing? You already have all you need. You already have more access to God than you can handle. Without bringing either Apollos or me into it, youre sitting on top of the worldat least Gods worldand were right there, sitting alongside you! 9-13 It seems to me that God has put us who bear his Message on stage in a theater in which no one wants to buy a ticket. Were something everyone stands around and stares at, like an accident in the street. Were the Messiahs misfits. You might be sure of yourselves, but we live in the midst of frailties and uncertainties. You might be well-thought-of by others, but were mostly kicked around. Much of the time we dont have enough to eat, we wear patched and threadbare clothes, we get doors slammed in our faces, and we pick up odd jobs anywhere we can to eke out a living. When they call us names, we say, God bless you. When they spread rumors about us, we put in a good word for them. Were treated like garbage, potato peelings from the cultures kitchen. And its not getting any better. 14-16 Im not writing all this as a neighborhood scold just to make you feel rotten. Im writing as a father to you, my children. I love you and want you to grow up well, not spoiled. There are a lot of people around who cant wait to tell you what youve done wrong, but there arent many fathers willing to take the time and effort to help you grow up. It was as Jesus helped me proclaim Gods Message to you that I became your father. Im not, you know, asking you to do anything Im not already doing myself.

Closing Confession: Number One: I am in Christ and He is in me! John 14:16-21 Amplified ( emphasis mine) 16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever 17 The Spirit of Truth, Whom the world cannot receive (welcome, take to its heart), because it does not see Him or know and recognize Him. But you know and recognize Him, for He lives with you [constantly] and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless]; I will come [back] to you. 19 Just a little while now, and the world will not see Me any more, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also. 20 At that time [when that day comes] you will know [for yourselves] that I am in My Father, and you [are] in Me, and I [am] in you.

21 The person who has My commands and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I [too] will love him and will show (reveal, manifest) Myself to him. [I will let Myself be clearly seen by him and make Myself real to him.] Number Two: My Destiny in Him is The Word being made flesh in my life! John 14:12-21 The Message (MSG) ( emphasis mine ) 11-14 Believe me: I am in my Father and my Father is in me. If you cant believe that, believe what you seethese works. The person who trusts me will not only do what Im doing but even greater things, because I, on my way to the Father, am giving you the same work to do that Ive been doing. You can count on it. From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, Ill do it. Thats how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it. Whatever you request in this way, Ill do.
