Computer Takes over Human Life?

In this twenty-first century, computer has been really common in our society. Who does not know computer? Based on statistic, there are more than 2 billion people among world population are computer users. It is about one third of total world population today. By knowing the fact, it makes people think, will it come the day when computer takes over our whole lives? There is a chance for the world to be controlled by computers. Computer, as a part of technology product, has a reciprocity relation with social condition. Technology will be developed in order to fulfill human needs, and besides that, technology innovation and inventions brought new form of living to our society. But do you ever notice that computers are everywhere? We use computer for doing simple task such as typing, drawing, computing, etc. In industrial sector, people use computer to run their machines. Meanwhile scientists utilize computer for collecting data and cultivate it. There are many more roles of computer for human life. Even though computer has important role in every aspect of our life, computer still cannot take over our whole life. One of the reasons why computer cannot replace human is because it is a non living thing. There will be a problem when it comes to retain its generation. Living things have their own reproductive organs so they can keep their species existence. Meanwhile, computers are not the same. It does not have any feature for multiply itself. The only way to extend their number is from human activity. Human fabricate computer from its components which assembled to be an integrated machine. The second reason still has a relation with the first one. Computer does not have sense just like human. Computers only do what they have been programmed for, no other else. When computer has to face a different situation or condition, it may cannot work properly. Besides, human has five senses that bring big influence for him to take an action. What he see, what he hear, what he smell, what he feel, and what he taste will determine how he behave. Computer has input device too, but when the input does not match with its program, computer cannot have initiative to take other steps out of its program. Human, with his superiority is being able to be adaptive whenever it is needed. Another fact about computer is it has a risk of having error or being malfunction. Most of us have ever experienced computer error. Sometimes the error just make a little loss, but at other times it can caused a big trouble too. Commonly, someones personal computer (PC) errors will damage his work only. But when we talk about computers that used in government or national communication provider, it will affect the society extensively. Can

you imagine if one of computers in NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has an error that can not be handled then launch a rocket by inconsequential? That is why even NASA has high technology computers, they still have a manual control to prevent a big holocaust. One more thing about computer that it needs to be maintained or updated within a certain period of time. Why do we need to do that? To improve and keep computers performance as what we expect, either computers hardware and software should be taken care of. For a complex computer such as computer that people use as server takes more time for a maintenance. And apparently, computer cannot maintain itself. People who can do this kind of occupation are computer engineers. Human needs to be maintained too, but human has an ability to complete his own basic needs. The primary reason why computers cannot replace humans position is it cannot think as smart as human being. Human has given by God an amazing brain which can be used for finding any solutions of every obstacles in front of him. We cannot deny that computer is a man made machine. And we all know that everything labeled man made has its own limitation that we cannot cross. Technology grows up, but every time we invent something new, it creates a new limitation too. Then at this moment, we still cannot have a super computer which can stand up-right as human. But, how about mechanization in many kinds of industry? The industrial revolution of eighteenth century has made a radical change in the method of production. Production becomes a round-about process because of mechanization. The use of computer ensures accuracy and speed of operation, and reduce work tension and monotony. The mechanization process has developed to save time, promote accuracy in work, relieve monotony in work and reduce the chances of frauds. And machines are more efficient than human labor. Machines only need fuels to keep it working and spare parts for periodical time. But human labor needs food everyday and we have a limited time for working. After all, human labor is still needed. Computer can be trusted for monotony work that would be really boring and tiring for human. As what I have written before, computer cannot take care of itself. Because of this, human labor can take a position as an operator, handling the machines, and do trouble shooting when it gets down, and other things that cannot be trusted for computer. Human labor can be used for doing things that does not have structured steps too. You might thinking if computer can compute and process data in a short time, computer can handle every aspects in this life systematically. But we have to remember that computer can not comply its own needs. So it takes time to input the data and interprete the data into an algorithm. If you ever learn about programming language, you will find it is not easy to make a simple program. And basically, people can not write down the syntax for the program if they do not have the skill to create a syntax and compile it to be a program like they want to. This is why in this decade, the number of computer specialist demand keeps growing up each day. Since internet introduced to the world in 1969, it brings a big impact to our life. Internet has made a revolution of computer and communications world that had never been foreseeable. Internet has the ability to broadcast to the world, has a mechanism of information dissemination, and as a medium for collaboration and interaction between individuals with the computer without being limited by geographic condition. There are many ways to communicate these days, we can call anyone in other country, text them, tweet or write on their wall, send them emails, or even talking face to face by real time using webcam. We can conclude computer is an important part of our communication system.

Even though we really need computer for communicating with others, but still best way to communicate effectively is a face to face meeting. The quality of communication through computer or other gadgets cannot as well as a direct communication face to face, sit down together sharing each others thought. From my personal experience, I can call my parents everyday, text my friends anytime, or use social network to talk with others, but it does not feel the same. The fact that we cannot make a body contact such shaking hands, giving a hug, or maybe poke others will lower the quality of communication itself. The more senses involved in our communication, the higher quality is obtained. One other point, the huge number of computer use in many areas makes it seems we can let computer do everything while human just do nothing. Computer makes human lazy because we are too depending on it. Sometimes people does not want to make more effort to do something because of computers existence. For an example, humans today tend to immediately take a calculator when they should count something. Although the numbers are not complex, people rather to use calculator for an ease. But we cannot rely on computer all the time. It has its liability and boundary in some aspects. Computer cannot always understand humans complex concept in mind, and it might give a wrong output that we do not expect. Even human beings sometimes find it difficult to understand one another, moreover computer is just a machine. From what I have laid out before, we can make a conclusion that computers are really useful for human. It helps a lot for doing things that monotony, has a complex process, or works that needs high accuracy and speed of operation. It gives us many ways to communicate with others without any problem because of the distance and cost. We can communicate beyond borders. But in the end, computers will never replace human beings. Human is a noble beings that God has made perfectly. Humans have senses and brain power that all we need for sustain our life and deal with any challenges in front of us. Nowadays, even though computer really has important role in every aspect of our life, computer still cannot take over human life. Computer is just a man made machine, it is just a tool for humans to ease their works.
