Nursing Service Job Description

Senior Nurse
Plans and supervises nursing related activities. Assist in the development of plans, procedures and standards related to the delivery of nursing services. Monitor performance of nurses and other health care personnel and conduct relevant training on health. Prepare monthly reports on health programs and nursing services. Coordinates with other departments regarding the patients needs. Ensures that there is adequate medical supplies and equipment in the clinical area. Perform other related functions as maybe assigned.

Chief Nurse
Plans and supervises nursing related activities in the operating room. Maintains all OR supplies and equipment. Coordinates administrative duties to ensure proper function of staff. Coordinates with other departments regarding patient needs. Coordinates with Administrative and Supply Department in requisition of supplies and equipment for OR use. Monitors and evaluates staff performance and the implementation of the nursing standards in the delivery of quality nursing care. Prepares and ensure safekeeping of OR records and reports. Determines needs of staff related to professional growth and development, and participates in the orientation and training of new staff, trainees, and student affairs. Performs other related functions as may be assigned.

Mentors student-nurses and monitors their development through preparation of programs/assignments with clinical instructor and evaluation of their performance. Orients staff, nursing student, patients and their families in related areas such as philosophy, objective and policies of the hospital/nursing service and other health information. Liases with nurses, patients, members of the health team and other units to coordinate functions. Monitors the inventory and maintenance of supplies, equipment and facilities. Performs administrative duties such as preparing fiscal reports and other related functions as maybe assigned. Perform other related functions as maybe assigned.

Staff Nurse
Manages patient care and other nursing activities (e.g. conducting rounds, soliciting patients feedback, administering medications and reporting unusual symptoms). Monitors and evaluates the performance of staff nurses and non-professional staff in providing patient care. Organizes/recommends staff work schedules.

Nursing Attendant
Under supervision, performs the following; Checks and receives articles from outgoing aide. Accounts for all linens during her shift and endorses them to the nursing aide of the next shift. Attends morning rounds with the ward nurses. Assists in giving baths to ambulatory patients. Serves drinking water and nourishment. Feeds patient who cannot eat by themselves.

Give/performs simple treatment like perineal care, SS enema, refilling of hot water bags and ice caps. Measures fluid intake and output. Takes and charts vital signs when delegated. Provides specimen vials, collects urine and stool specimen and sends them to laboratory. Answers patients calls and delivers messages. Provide clean linen and makes bed, serves and empties bedpans. Scrubs bedpans and urinals. Shaves patients for surgery. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of the patients units at all times. Sees to it that all beds are complete with linen and pillows. Tidy beds and bedside tables, counters, cabinets and bedside chairs. Fills drinking bottles at the bedside tables. Washes glasses and spoons af bed patients. Removes all used or discontinued equipment from patient areas and cleans and returns them to the utility room.
