Energy Conservation It is difficult to imagine a day without consuming some type of energy. Every household owns multiple electric appliances, such as TV, lighting, heating and computer, and people use electricity to operate such appliances. People use gasoline to power their cars. Energy is required to run businesses and to operate industries. These are our common daily activities, which we do not think seriously about. However, many people would be shocked to find out nonrenewable natural resources such as fossil fuels are consumed by about 86.6 million barrels per day, which is equivalent to 13.7 billion one liter bottles. The world-wide energy consumption will continue to increase by 2 % per year on average unless action is taken, according to Rockwool International. Energy consumption contributes to serious problems, such as pollution, global warming, and exhaustion of natural resources. Saving energy is vital to making the world environment healthier and to provide better world for the future generation. Reason 1 There are many reasons why we need to save energy. One reason is to make the environment healthier throughout the world. About 50% of the electricity produced is from burning coal. This creates a lot of air pollution, releasing harmful gases such as mercury and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Such gas emissions are also causing

By saving energy, we can reduce air pollution and prevent global warming. Reason 2 Another reason to save energy is to protect nature and natural resources. Large scale coal production requires strip mining, and this results in the destruction of environment. Destruction of nature is a severe problem since it destroys ecosystems. 11% of the world's untouched forests and 60% of its coral reefs could be lost by 2030, states Vidal of Guardian UK. Saving energy is also essential to conserve natural resources. The biggest source of energy is fossil fuels, which are nonrenewable. Natural resources such as coal and oil take millions of years to form through process of plants and animals decomposition into organic materials, and cannot be replaced as fast as they are being consumed. Saving energy is crucial in order to conserve the nonrenewable resources for future generation. People can also save money by saving energy. The less energy used, the lower the utility bill. Much of the money spent on energy is wasted through the careless use of electronics. A survey conducted in Korea reported that four out of ten families who saved energy wherever possible had lower energy bill than the other six families who did not. The families saved energy and money by turning off lights when they were not needed. They used their washing machine only when the laundry was fully loaded. The families also took out plugs from the outlet, when the electronic appliances were not in use. These are some helpful ways to save energy without much effort.

Conclusion Worldwide efforts are in need to conserve energy for our future generations. Opponents of clean energy always argue that it will cost too muchbut the real cost comes from inaction, says Fred Krupp, the head of the Environmental Defense Fund. Changing how we use our energy today and educating others about the current condition of the worlds environment could help improve the condition of our world. Our individual effort can make a big impact on worldwide energy saving. We must all take necessary steps to help the world to be healthier and cleaner by conserving energy.
