LOCKER TIME AND DISMISSAL (10 min/day) NOTES

LENGTH OF THE SCHOOL YEAR: 180 days ASSEMBLIES: On average, JCMS has 2 60-minute all-school assemblies each month. All students participate. FIELD TRIPS: The average JCMS student goes on 2 half-day (3 hour) and 1 full day (6.5 hour) field trips per year. Travel to and from field trip sites takes up an average of 25% of each field trip. MANDATED TESTING: The average JCMS student has 30 hours of mandated testing (interim assessments, state standardized tests, etc) per year. TRANSITIONAL DAYS: JCMS has 3 days each year (1st day of school, day before Winter Break, and last day of school) when teachers and students are primarily engaged in activities other than instruction. EARLY RELEASE DAYS: JCMS has 10 early release days/year when the school day is 2 hours shorter than normal. ESTIMATING NON-PURPOSED TIME: Based on classroom observation data, JCMS has estimated that inclass transitions take up an average of 225 minutes per week in academic classes and 20 minutes per week in non-core academic classes. Unplanned interruptions take up 50 minutes per week in academic classes and 10 minutes per week in non-core academic classes. PA announcements are only schedules during homeroom and locker time.
