President Barack Obama has become a global brand and his campaign has even sued (http://legaltimes.typepad.com/blt/2012/06/obamacampaign-sues-local-vendor-for-trademarkinfringement.html) local vendors for infringing upon the campaign's trademarks, but a Government Accountability Institute (GAI) report (http://www.breitbart.com /Big-Government/2012/10/08/Report-Illegal-ForeignCampaign-Donations-Assault-on-American-Sovereignty) released on Monday revealed Obama's campaign does not own the mysterious site Obama.com, which redirects visitors -- most of whom are foreign -- to the Obama campaign's official fundraising page.
This prompts a simple question: why does the Obama campaign not own Obama.com? In September of 2008 and September of 2012, the Obama campaign has shattered fundraising records with small-dollar donations that the campaign does not need to disclose. In September of 2008, the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee raised nearly $190 million. Last month, despite lowere enthusiasm for Obama's campaign than in 2008, the campaign still raised $181 million, and most (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/10/08/how-much-of-obamas181-million-haul-is-illegal) of that haul does not need to be publicly disclosed.

Why Doesn't Tech-Savvy Obama Campaign Own Obama.com?

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/10/08/Why-Doesn-t-O...

Because the Obama campaign has technological gurus that are considered some of the best in their respective fields, the campaign is surely aware that nearly 70% of traffic to Obama.com comes from foreign sources. Since Obama.com redirects to Obama's official donation page, all of that traffic goes directly to a page where donors can conveniently donate to Obama's campaign without having to pass standard security measures that prevent fraudulent credit card transactions. Federal election laws prohibit (http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/10 /08/Obama-Campaign-Potentially-Violated-Federal-Laws-Prohibiting-SolicitationOf-Foreign-Campaign-Donations) campaigns from soliciting campaign contributions from foreigners, and the Obama campaign could be in violation of these laws. By not officially owning the site, the Obama campaign can attempt to reap the benefits of contributions that are potentially illegal while trying to absolve itself of any blame. Regardless, the Obama campaign not having the rights to Obama.com is like Apple not not owning Apple.com, and that is why this is as mysterious as the Obama.com redirect site.

Obama is handing America over to the Chinese right under our very eyes. Imagine life under Chinese communist rule, or any version in between.

Surely the banks know what is going on right? I think someone in Congress should sue Visa, BofA, American Express, and Discover, to get these records. All they would have to do is screen for donations to Obama for America. Should be pretty easy. And then have a nice looksie at the mailing address.

You guys need to back up and back off. My point to Tony was neutral but apparently it's been spun as a left wing conspiracy. Think again. His article is weaker because he doesn't point this out or draw comparisons. He compares Apple but misses the obvious Romney comparison. He can strengthen this by doing a larger investigation. Don't jump to conclusions or be blinded. Every comment that you can spin one way, you can spin another so be careful how you view the posts of others... and for the record, I've been pulling for Romney since 2007.

You've heard of Chicago style pizza? Well, this is Chicago style politics; you hire corrupt people by of course, a trusted 3rd party operative. These corrupt professionals have all the ability and knowledge to get away with every crime imaginable, especially when it comes to online corruption/fraud. They were successful in the '04 election, with only eyebrows slightly raised at the "amazing amount of money amassed by SOOO many contributors who only donated small amounts of money." Now, fast forward 4 years. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...you're BUSTED!

This is a good way to count donations twice. The site owner is paid by the Obama campaign for the. Ad link to his site. The site owner then gives a portion of that money back to Obama as another contribution. They could also add big donors to the ownership of the Obama.com site, so they can get paid back some of their donations as ad revenues. There are other scams they could be using as well.

There's definitely something hinky here... obama(dot)com actually doesn't redirect to the campaign website, it uses HTTP tunneling to form a connection through obama(dot)com to the campaign site. There could be legitimate reasons to do this (having to do with idiosyncrasies with SSL protocol) but it isn't necessary if your goal is just to redirect users to the campaign. But it does make it possible for the campaign website admins to claim that they had no idea from where the connections were coming, and it also makes it more difficult to filter out connections from specific IP addresses (e.g. foreign ones). It also makes it possible for obama(dot)com to capture all traffic through the connection, so that the SSL stream could be decrypted at later time, for a massive identity theft.

I agree. Also, without looking at the data I'm not completely sold that most of these donations came from a foreign entity. Who's to say the sender didn't use a VPN connection while sitting somewhere in Chicago, or that the same sender didn't use executable code designed to reproduce functions in repeat mode? Due to the fact the Obama people disabled normal security protocols anything is possible, including putting to good use kickback funds from the billionaire looter Jon Corzine.

HIRED MIND

That's definitely a possibility. But a donation from an IP inside the U.S. is far less suspicious than one from a foreign IP. So going through foreign machines gets you more anonymity but extra scrutiny, and going through US ones get you less scrutiny but might be easier for law-enforcement to trace. I'm not sure which option I would choose.

SIDELINENEGOTIATOR

Hired Mind, I think you may have missed my point. Anyone can use a VPN connection configured through a foreign proxy and no one would know the difference. Then consider the sender(s) were using special software designed to automatically repeat sending donations until a certain parameter is reached or is manually stopped. Again, very easy to accomplish. I would love to inspect the capture data to see if a large quantity came from the same foreign IP and the timestamps. I wouldn't put anything past this administration because we know they lie and cheat.

Definitely this is wrongful conduct and since the Obama administration hasn't renounced accepting these foreign donations demonstrates they are good to go with criminal activity so long as it benefits his campaign.

The liberal media must be held accountable for the protectionism of Obama. We the people will call them out. We the people will boycott them and their sponsors. It will have an effect. I do not buy any union made product or service. I do not buy or rent movies or music from the Hollywood elitists that support Obama. My wallet is thicker because of me not spending it with companies and people that support this socialist pig of a president.

Obama in 2008 said he should get credit for having to manage the campaign. I guess since he doesn't understand this simple economic principle he has shown he doesn't understand how the private sector works. It's just an unexpected bonus people will go to Obama's fundraising page in error and make a donation that doesn't have to be tracked. Walter Hanson Minneapolis, MN
