In the Da Vinci code, the supposedly shocking revelation is made that Christ was married to a female follower and

procreated. This supposed revelation is made as a subtext against the male dominated Church, which is always putting down the freedoms and esteem of women in society, espousing old-fashioned chauvinistic attitudes. The idea that Christ was married is not shocking to Orthodox Christians whove known this for 2000 years. The only issue that Orthodox Christians would contend with Dan Brown is the identity of the wife. The wedlock Christ is in has been revealed to us as a spiritual marriage to the Church and all the believers in it (which is portrayed as a chaste female virgin). This is the most frequently used analogy found in the Christian scriptures, which show the love God has for mankind. This is to express Gods deep affection for the Church as a heavenly and spiritual mystery that analogously is like the depths of the deepest human relationship. For this reason there is no moral scandal to any Christian to the idea of Christ being married, to Orthodox Christians there is no need for Christ to marry. He has revealed Himself as the creator of the universe and if He wanted to it would not be outside of His ability to create more children for Himself. His mission this time was not to create more children, it was to save the millions He has already created but had become lost to Him because of the depravity of sin. It would be accomplished through His personal sacrifice to redeem the lost and to show humanity the dignity and glory that He had intended to bestow on them. More than this, through the history of the Church it has been revealed that the Virgin Mary is the greatest of Gods creatures. In the controversy of the Theotokos (God birth giver in English), the appropriateness of this traditional title was challenged. When the scandal was over, women celebrated in the streets raising incense (a symbol of Mary), an event that the traditional Christians depicted in Church iconography and celebrated in memory of that day for many years. May Christ reveal to us His plan of redemption and move us through His Holy Spirit to become believers in His name.

One of the great ironies of modern society is the portrayal of Christianity as superstitious and backward. The reason for the irony is the great role that Christians have played in shaping modern society and intellectual development. One of the great controversies, evolution is a subject that has caused and causes much debate. A forgotten part of the debate is the reception of Charles Darwins book Origin of Spices, it was greatly honoured by all including the churchmen of the day, the result was the commemoration of his memorial by burial in Westminster Abbey, the Church in England where royalty are buried, an honour bestowed on only 5 other nonroyals. The churchmen of the day saw no contradiction between the biblical description of creation in the book of Genesis and Origin of Species because they like traditional Christians from past eras believed that the book of Genesis was a spiritual not scientific account of creation. There has been a long-standing Christian tradition of interpreting the biblical days of Genesis as long expanses of time that goes back nearly 2000 years. In addition to this, many of the great scientific discoveries of the twentieth century were discovered by Christians including genetics by Gregory a monk who devised his theories as he performed his daily work and gravity by Isaac Newton who was also a devout believer, even the theory of the big bang was developed by George Lemitre who was also Christian. One thing that many may not know, is that the big bang in many of its forms has not been kind to the atheistic ideal of an uncreated universe. In the early 20th centaury the predominant theory for the existence of the universe is the steady state theory, which posited that the universe existed forever and the creation of the universe occurred because there was infinite time available for the necessary condition for the development of the universe to occur. Einstein in his theory stated the idea of a beginning was abhorrent to him so evolution needs an infinite amount of time to get started, the universal constant, in this instance his atheistic beliefs actually impeded scientific progress. In tests to prove this theory Einstein looked at the edge of the universe in a telescope and they observed that the universe was expanding, if the universe was expanding, it couldnt be eternal and needed to have a beginning. The conclusion he drew from this was that there must be a creator and he went on to say that the universal constant he added to his theory was the biggest bungle of his scientific career. True Christians are reasonable and intelligent people who have no qualms with science or scientific progress.
