In more than 8,600 communities, Americans can take advantage of curbside recycling, where recyclables are placed in special bins and picked up by the local garbage collector. Republic operates 76 materials recovery facilities nationwide. At these plants, any trash that is mixed in with the recyclables is removed and the rest of the items are sorted into specific types. What do materials that are recycled become? Cardboard become new cardboard and facing paper for gypsum board. Newspapers & magazines become new papers and cereal boxes. Aluminum becomes new beverage containers. Glass becomes highway reflector markings and home dcor items like backsplashes. Plastic becomes new plastic containers, lumber or carpet and fleece sweatshirts.
