In an environment where wireless technology is ever evolving and new techniques are continuously being adopted by vendors, it is becoming increasingly important to have a versatile planning tool that is capable of embracing this fast changing environment. ASSET3G contains features which enable planners to plan the rollout of new technologies whilst still enabling existing ones to be developed and optimised, ensuring that the end user always receives the quality that they expect. In selecting ASSET3G, with its accurate planning for future scenarios, you will be embracing a tool that will be at the forefront of planning and optimisation processes for world wide technologies for many years to come.
Sophisticated user/group management, enriched with advanced security features, guarantee the integrity of ASSET3G's site database, organised in a hierarchical structure of Network Elements. Network data handling has never been easier with ASSET3G being supported by a powerful filter wizard and an intelligent 'find' function. A flexible database reporter is also there to assist the user when collating data for formal governmental reports. Accurate propagation modelling is offered by a selection of microcell and macrocell models which, through an advanced autotuning calibration function, can provide an accuracy of less than 8 dB. Moreover, interfaces for the latest deterministic models from leading producers Wavecall and Siradel are available. Predictions are always kept up-to-date as any discrepancies missing, or out-of-date, are automatically identified and re-predicted on the fly. ILSA - Automatic Frequency Planning Frequency planning a GSM network is an important but tedious process that can take planners a lengthy time to perfect. ASSET3G optionally incorporates a powerful automated frequency planner 'ILSA' to carry out this process. ILSA can account for different network configurations and technologies, including support for multiple cell layers, frequency hopping, discontinuous transmission, group planning and consideration of inter-modulation and harmonics between frequency bands.
functionality to plan Frequency Hopping. Interference arrays, Excel-based reports and advanced HSN and MAIO planners are provided for the user to visualise the effects of site, synthesised and baseband hopping. Traffic Forecasting Traffic forecast plays a major role in cellular planning and ASSET3G handles traffic modelling with great sensitivity. A novel traffic model based on the bearer-serviceterminal type hierarchy allows the user to define and simulate dual technology subscribers. A service can support one or more bearers and one or more carriers or cell layers, AMR and HR bearers can also be defined. Special attention is paid at packet switched services. A detailed description of the packet's characteristics along with the service's traffic class allows for dynamic packet QoS simulations which utilise the results of the Monte Carlo simulations. The user can then easily identify cells where packet delay may be excessive and take immediate actions to rectify the problems. A terminal type can subscribe to one or more services. An easy-to-use traffic wizard is used to geographically distribute terminals via clutter weights in the area of interest. The wizard also supports the import of live traffic 2G/2.5G/3G data in an attempt to model subscriber behaviour more accurately. Monte Carlo simulations allow for performance analysis of a dual technology network. The simulator defines many statistical distributions to model the RF behaviour of the network, characteristic examples being shadow fading, speed and power control modelling. Enhanced Results Gathering
Multi-Technology Planning ASSET3G, foreseeing the co-existence of 2G, 2.5G and 3G technologies, provides versatile support for multi-technology planning. The user can plan each technology independently but there is a variety of features that allow for a seamless integration of a GSM and a UMTS network, such as the neighbour planner and the 'optional' Monte Carlo simulator. ASSET3G's planning features are also wizard based to reduce the chance of user error and empower the user with greater control over processes. Complex algorithms are used to simulate load balancing hierarchical cell structures between technologies. Optimum results require a long simulation time, depending on the network and traffic configuration; therefore it is possible to batch run these results overnight or over a weekend, with an automatic backup function to prevent loss of data through unforeseen circumstances. Furthermore, ASSET3G delivers full, true distributed simulation capabilities, enabling any PC on the network, even those without ASSET3G installed, to contribute spare processing power.
Frequency plan analysis is accompanied by advanced visualisation features. Static and dynamic co-channel and adjacent channel renderers as well as per carrier coverage and interference arrays aid the user to conduct a quality analysis of the frequency plan and easily identify poorly planned areas. ASSET3G also includes the

Dual Technology Monte Carlo Simulator The optional, dual technology Monte Carlo simulator offers the user an unprecedented 59 different array types. Forty of them are per service arrays and include the probability of failure due to twelve failure conditions for both networks. The remaining arrays are calculated per carrier or cell layer. All of this information can be used to automatically generate a detailed report either in text format or as an Excel spreadsheet.
Information can be split into results describing the performance of each technology, individual services, carriers and cell layers. Report validity may also be controlled through the use of the innovative 'edge zone' enabling the user to exclude invalid border regions from the statistics.
