Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; Wow! Did the price of gas go up at the pump last week! I hear it has something to do with a refinery up north that had to shut down. Amazing what downstream affects there can be even with something like gasoline! Last July, when Fr. Loc was transferred to St. Timothys, we were not sent another priest by the bishop. There was no priest available. This change has had an effect on the remaining priests availability to minister to the many requests here at our parish community. Of course, if you have been around the country at all, you know well the incredible shortage of priests and that having three priests in our parish is a real gift. As your parish priests we have been reflecting and discussing what changes we needed to make in order to keep our sanity and respond faithfully to the call to ministry. We have concluded that we should all take a common day off (we are given one day off every seven days) and we have agreed that this will be Thursday. How will this affect our parish? Well, first it will allow the three of us priests to be more available the other six days of the week. We like working together and we hope that this arrangement will help us do this better. It will also make us more available for meetings and parish gatherings. There will be no Mass on Thursday evening at 5:30pm. One of the priests will celebrate the morning 8:15am Mass on Thursday and then be free the rest of the day. We might consider the Liturgy of the Hours on Thursday evening if there is interest. Sick calls can either wait till the next day or else another parish will be contacted to assist or if it is a patient at Mission Hospital Mission Viejo or Laguna Beach the priest chaplain will be contacted. We rarely receive requests that cannot wait till the following day. Other emergency calls can usually be referred to a staff member or a pastoral minister. In arranging funerals we will try to schedule them on another day. We will be starting this new schedule Thursday, November 8, 2012. As pastor I am proud to work with the other priests, deacons and staff and ministers in our parish and I believe our parish is well served. I am trusting that we will work out any bugs with our new schedule. Please feel free to share with me your thoughts by emailing me at ssallot@stedward.com Together in Christ; Fr. Steve Pastor DEACON CANDIDATE AL SCADUTO Deacon Candidate Al Scaduto, a member of St. Edward the Confessor parish, is a candidate for the Order of Deacon, and anyone who knows any reason why this candidate should not be ordained is bound to disclose this information immediately. HAS YOUR BIBLE BEEN COLLECTING DUST? DISCOVER A PRACTICAL PLAN FOR READING IT.

Dear People of God:

Our Parish Religious Education classes for children 1st5th grades have begun and it is a busy time for all of us on Sunday mornings, and Monday and Wednesday afternoons! We have a pressing need for a few classroom teacher aides in the following: Mondays 1st grade or 5th grade from 4:30pm-5:30; and Wednesdays 1st grade or 3rd grade from 4:30pm-5:30. Please call me if you are feeling a heartfelt nudge from above and wish to participate in reaching out to Gods little ones who want to know Jesus better.

The Bible is more than as book; it is the incredible story of salvation history--The Bible Timeline makes reading the Bible not only easy, but even exciting. The Bible Timeline is offered at St. Edward on two days: Tuesday mornings, OR Wednesday evenings, For more information go to stedward.com/faithformation.

Blessings, Gloria Fetta- 481-0882

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING

NFP has no harmful physical side effects. It fosters authentic marital love, respect, honesty, and couple communication. It also fosters trust in God and an authentic marital spirituality that deepens the couple's relationship with Christ and his Church. NFP, when used properly, is "marriage insurance."
