Learning and Education Thoughts to start a Vision

Most of our answers would converge towards the need to reuse the same experiences in the future. In other words, an adult mind would learn only those things that the adult would probably use in the future in some form. The ability of humans to learn or store information and to interpret and process the same, had been the very reason by which we have created all that we see around. As, only humans can distinguish virtue (which is knowledge) from ignorance (root of moral evil). What should one learn ? This is our life-line, what we learn is what we become, so an individual adult needs to be educated to think as to what one wants to become in ones life. To make one think about what one wants to learn is the only education one needs to learn formally, as all other learning are dependent on this formal learning. What is education and what is its purpose ? Education is not about looking into the disciplines and telling whether it is Arts, Science, Mathematics, Technology and Engineering, rather it is education to educate oneself. Most term this as selflearning, but what any system of education should emphasize is on how to self-learn. Much of todays education seldom address the fundamental question how does learning happen in the brain and the education system that is instructional mode, has primarily a teacher and a student, and both are unaware as to how learning happens in their respective brains. Education on learning is the fundamental learning everyone should possess, so as to enable ways and means by which one can get educated effectively. Education is viewed as a process or a culture. Establishing the right view helps design any educational intervention. If viewed as a process, only input and output criterion needs to be established, but if viewed as a culture, then education takes transformation as its goal. Some key Topics that we need to ponder into. About Generations: Anthropological studies tell about generations and their characteristics, educating a particular generation needs sound knowledge about the generations themselves and how they learn. It is a highly complex situation, as teachers belong to a different generation as that of learners. As humans evolve, education also evolves. Knowledge Dissemination: Knowledge cannot be disseminated, it needs to be constructed in a human brain, and only information can be disseminated. Dissemination modes of information too have changed from a plain non-interactive textual content, towards interactive multi-sensory virtual walkthrough multimedia content. The future is yet to come; we can only speculate on the modes of information penetration into the brain. Learning Tools: Learning tools that aid in learning content has moved from a passive mode towards a challenging mode. How do these tools help us learn ?

Learning Methods: Todays generation learn best through Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Experiential Learning (EL) assisted through Active Learning (AL) strategies, but these techniques themselves are used sparingly as the awareness in todays generation on education itself is low. But tomorrow is going to be certainly different, new learning methods needs to be researched to identify and suit the generations learning culture. Rationale of Learning: The purpose of learning something, if not well understood, would lose its charm. Methodology to identify what one wants to learn and why is the beginning of any educational intervention. Objective of Learning: What did one gain after going through a learning exercise, if the learning has achieved that, it was worth learning. The ability to express the impact of learning is the key objective. Process of teaching: Teaching is an Art, or is it the Art of Teaching makes one a teacher. Because all great teachers did not teach, they made students learn by themselves. Process of learning: Process of learning can happen only inside a brain, if that being the case, what are we discussing about learning processes. Assessment and Evaluation: The very purpose of assessment is to find sufficiency, as nobody in earth can tell whether one has learnt anything completely. Abundance of information in this world produces more and more knowledge. To quantify a measure of learning, evaluation was created, however many are still not aware of evaluation theories. Research on Education: Education and its purpose have to be researched for lifes existence. As this research is a continuous process, our generation can evolve the same. Research on Learning: To appreciate how our brains learn and what contributes biologically to learn better and faster needs definite research. Epistemology of Learning: what constitutes education? the education system that we practice today was it scientifically designed? if so how? by whom? , and what experimentation did they do to establish the present practice ? How was it scientifically validated ? asking the right question gets us to the core of learning. Visioning: Visioning exercise needs sound know-how on the theories and processes on visioning. Visioning on Education needs not only insights on visioning but also on education. As education is a domain that evolved from philosophy and psychology, the roots are solid as Socrates, Plato, Xenophen and Aristotle have provided the basic categorization of knowledge. It is for us to know the past, understand the present and anticipate the future.
