September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month!
Good Morning, Mr. Rodriguez, In the Kriol language commonly used throughout Belize, natives often say, Yu kyaahn travl pahn emti stomak. The translation: You cannot travel on an empty stomach. With all this Central American melting pot has to offer, visitors should take these words to heart if they choose to explore Belizes ancient history, lush natural offerings and culturally diverse population. The journey begins with Flavors of Belize: The Cookbook. Published by McNab Publishing Ltd., Flavors of Belize is packed with recipes including a selection of soups and starters to main dishes and delectable desserts. Additionally, this cookbook hosts a variety of submissions from some of Belizes most renowned chefs and cooks some formally trained and some trained in their mothers kitchen. Each section opens with a brief explanation of the different cultures whose history acts as the foundation of Belizean heritage. This colorful gastronomic guide delivers over 120 recipes spanning cultures including the Maya, British, Mestizo, Creole, Chinese, Lebanese, Garifuna and more. Throughout Flavors of Belize, readers will find descriptive recipes simple enough for the home kitchen (and cook) accompanied by vibrant and decadent photography from renowned food photographer Matt Armendariz. Some lesser known but favorite Belizean recipes found in the cookbook include: Panades Fried corn pockets filled with beans or fish Escabeche A hearty Hispanic onion soup Belizean Boil-Up Coconut Curry Shrimp Hibiscus-Marinated Pork Tenderloin Breadfruit Casserole - A unique side dish made with local breadfruit And many more! This would be a wonderful feature for Hispanic Heritage Month as a majority of Belizes population is Hispanic. Please contact me to request further information about Flavors of Belize: The Cookbook.
