School of Management SCM 302 (BBAP3SM) - Course Outline Sem 2 2012 Supply Chain Management and Logistics MODULE

DESCRIPTION The American Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) defines lo gistics management as: that part of supply chain management that plans, implements and controls the eff icient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services and re lated information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in or der to meet customers requirements This module introduces students to the concepts, theoretical framewor and pract ical principles that underlie logistics management. The prerequisite for this module is SCM 2O2 (BBAP2SC) which may be done concurre ntly. MARK STRUCTURE The semester mar structure for this module will be as follows: Assignment 1 5% Assignment 2 15% Semester Test 1 8% Semester Test 2 12% Course Mar

40% Examination % TOTAL 100% DULY PERFORMED (DP) REQUIREMENTS Only students who have duly performed all the requirements of the programme will be allowed to write the exam and thus complete the module. NB Writing the Tests and submitting an Assignment is compulsory for ALL Supply C hain Management 302 students. EXAMINATION There will be one three-hour, closed-boo exam. Students must achieve a minimum of 40% in the exam, and an overall module mar of 50% to pass the module. The e xamination will consist of a case study followed by Section A and Section B ques tions. Candidates will be required to answer section A (compulsory 50 mar quest ion) and two questions from Section B (choice of 4 questions; 25 mar s each). TESTS Two class tests, each lasting one hour, will be held between 5.30 and 6. 30pm on Thursday 6 September 2012 (multiple choice/ short answers) and on Thursd ay 11 October 2012 (short case study and 2 essays). Absence will be condoned onl y in the event of illness supported by a medical certificate submitted within 5 days of missing the test. Those students with valid documentation for missing a test will be able to write a ma e-up test similar to test 2 to be held on Monday 1 5 October. Students who fail to write the ma e-up test will be awarded no mar s. ASSIGNMENT Students will be allocated to groups for assignment 1. Members of the gr oup will be expected to meet following the brea in lecture session 2 (2/8) in o rder to discuss the logistics problem presented to them. Students will then be r equired to form their own groups of 2 members only. Each group will be required to produce a report of approximately 2500 to 3500 words in length (10 14 pages) that addresses the logistics related problem introduced in the first assignment. Assignment 1 is due on or before Thursday 23 August. Further detail will be pro vided during lectures. Assignment 2 must be submitted in the lecture period on or before Thursd ay 20 September. Under NO circumstances will any assignment be accepted after th is date.
